Historical Background[]
A wight is an Old English word for a human, or any living or supernatural being (Free Dictionary). In the modern fantasy genre, the word was re-appropriated to refer to corpses that retain their soul (presumably originating from the fact that "wight" is an obscure, now archaic term, for a human).
