Historical Background
Vulcan was the Roman blacksmith god of fire and volcanoes. This association with fire logically links him to the HQ Fire Staff. Many Vulcan's Greek counterpart of fire and smithing was Hephaestus. Many items in FFXI are named in honor of Vulcan and fire including: Vulcan Blade, Vulcan Claymore, Vulcan Degen, Vulcan Sword, as well as the special attack Vulcan Shot.
