Vukki-Chebukki is also known as the legendary bounty hunter, Goldmane of Tavnazia, so named because his chocobo's mane would obscure him whenever he rode into battle. He, along with Ismenios of Bastok, performed great deeds during the Crystal War, including the capture of Atarefaunet. It was during this operation that he was separated from his family, who were living on Cape Riverne. While his children fled to the Tavnazian Safehold, he purchased Purgonorgo Isle with the bounty, and has been living there quietly to avoid the notice of Atarefaunet's Band.

During the quest The Search for Goldmane, the player finds a picture of his wife and triplets, Cherukiki, Makki-Chebukki, and Kukki-Chebukki. The triplets and their father are reunited at the end of Chains of Promathia. During the Distant Worlds finale, they pay a visit to their hometown, him expressing shock at its blown-up state.

While searching for their father in Comedy of Errors, the triplets claim that they were "in mommy's tummy" during the war, when he and his wife were separated. This would cast doubt on whether the triplets shown in the photo are actually them, but it is likely they simply altered the story; aside from being notorious liars, they also claimed to be the children of the great mage Karaha-Baruha.
