Effects of Vitality[]
Vitality contributes to player defense, and is an important factor when calculating physical damage taken.
- Every point of VIT raises defense by 1.5.[1]
- The difference between attacker STR and target VIT (aka fSTR) is a significant component of physical damage calculations.
- Raising player VIT decreases the damage taken from critical hits[2]
VIT is important to calculating the Healing effects of Healing Magic and Waltzes.
- Target VIT is used to calculate the received healing from waltzes.
- Caster VIT is used to calculate the potency of Cure and Curaga spells.
Increasing Vitality increases the potency of the Monk job ability Chakra.
Increasing Vitality increases the damage done by Dragoon Jumps.
VIT is used to calculate the duration of the Paladin ability Cover.[3]
Aligned with the Element of Earth. Many items that are Earth-based add VIT to a player's Stats, such as Titan's Cudgel

Effect of Job[]
Different Jobs (Main or Support) provide varying amounts of VIT to the player character. In order of impact:
- (Tied) Monk, Paladin
- (Tied) Dark Knight, Dragoon, Ninja, Samurai
- (Tied) Bard, Beastmaster, Blue Mage‡, Puppetmaster, Ranger, Rune Fencer, Thief, Warrior, White Mage
- (Tied) Corsair, Dancer, Red Mage, Scholar
- Black Mage
- Summoner
‡Set Blue Magic spells also have an impact on player VIT, this ranking is based on a Blue Mage with zero spells set.
