Historical Background
In Christian demonology (Late Medieval- Early Modern European), Morax (also spelled Marax, Foraii) is a demon with the dual-title of Great Earl of Hell and President of Hell, commanding 36 legions of demons (some accounts state 32). He appears as a large human-headed bull. He can teach astronomy and all other liberal sciences to his conjunrer as well as provide good knowledge on herbs & precious stones. He is said to provide high quality familiars which are very wise. His name derives from the Latin "morax" which means "that which delays or stops". Morax is 1 of 69 demons listed in the Pseudomonarchia Dæmonum and 1 of 72 listed in the Ars Goetia (the first section of the Lesser Key of Solomon).
