User Talk Pages

Please do not delete things off of other people's User Talk pages without their permission. --Nynaeve 16:29, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

Thank you for informing me of this as I was not aware I had done so. Please could you provide me with the information as to who's user space, and when I supposedly did this? Thanks. --Drow 16:47, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

You, probably inadvertently, removed the {{Welcome}} tag that User:Nynaeve placed on User:Frag's talk page. This tag is meant to give new users a list of links to help them edit the wiki. She probably contacted you because this tag was removed when you left a message for User:Frag. Just be sure to add any message or comments below any existing text, or in a separate section, so that multiple messages to a user are not lost. --Chrisjander 17:53, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

What Chris said. ^^ --Nynaeve 19:03, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

Oh I see I thought we were talking about deleting what someone had typed on someone elses talk page rather than deleting an automated welcome message on a friends talk page. Didn't even realise that removed it just thought now there was a real message there, the auto one was gone. Also I was showing him at the time how to add some features to his space so I also thought it could well have been him removing it. Anyway no harm done I've known Frag for over 4 years he's on my MSN, lives a stones throw away and as you can tell same server etc. Thanks for getting back to me. --Drow 20:25, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

Its no problem. We just like to make sure all new users view and have access to seeing those links. The links help edit and help you understand our policies and structure so that you don't do something wrong and as long as you have that on your page, we know that you have been exposed to such, just chose to ignore it if you break the policies/templates. Nynaeve

Alrighty I think for the most part I've looked at other templates and such before editing or fixing my own mess. So do people actually sit there and read through policies, terms and conditions now? :D

Usually a case of: Next, next, next, sign up, next, next, I agree. Here is your password.--Drow 20:45, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

--- Mainly only if they're confused about how to start editing, there are a number of good links there, and we just throw in the policies so they're there. I'm sure most don't even glance at them. --Chrisjander 21:01, 22 September 2006 (EDT)

This got me curious:

FFXIclopedia:Image policy - This page has been accessed 594 times.
FFXIclopedia:Copyrights - This page has been accessed 577 times
FFXIclopedia:Guide to deletion - This page has been accessed 344 times

Yeah, shame people don't actually read it though. Click "omfg no wai" Back. --Drow 16:17, 5 October 2006 (EDT)

User Picture

FFXIclopedia editors are allowed to upload a single personal picture for use on their User Page. This picture must be no larger than 30 KB and the filename must be named after your User Page not your Character and look like User-UserName.JPG. For example if User:Nynaeve wanted to upload a picture for her User Page, the file name would have to appear as: User-Nynaeve.JPG or User-Nynaeve.jpg even though her character name is Birgitte. If you want to upload a new picture, make sure to upload it over the original filename. Once a picture is uploaded, the User will have 24 hours to incorporate that picture into their User Page. Any personal picture uploaded that does not follow this format, or is not in use on the User's User Page will be subject to immediate deletion.

Due to the new Change in the Image Policy, I had to delete your User Picture. Feel free to upload (1) that follows the above restrictions. Thank you for understanding. --Nynaeve 20:05, 2 November 2006 (EST)

New articles

What was the article you wanted to submit? You didn't mention what it was. Also, featured articles go through a nomination process first, so you'll have to be voted into that, after the article is posted. It takes good content and a good looking page to make it to featured status. While the look of a page may change after gaining featured status (i.e. category:Armor Sets), it starts out as a good looking, well put-together page. I don't see how your article could be protected unless it already existed, so why don't you give us some details and we'll help you create the page. --Chrisjander 11:17, 9 November 2006 (EST)

I think what he saying is that where he wanted his new article to link off of is protected - but not quite sure. That right? --Gahoo 11:18, 9 November 2006 (EST)
Uh, writing an article. Going to add it and link to to page but page is protected. Thinking Actually writing it now, it's called {Connection lost}. It details one of the many reasons you may be experiencing a bad connection while using FFXI and if there is anything you can do your end to prevent this. As I've changed ISP and recently had a poor connection at home and I've also had experience helping others with a problem (and usually fixed it). It's going to detail hardware, system, software and ISP problems and if there is anything you can do to prevent/lesson it.
I've already researched around some and I've also been in contact with Technical support through POL to see what they could suggest. I've built my own computer and I'm studing a Computer Games Development Degree (Hons) so I think I could help a lot of people out here ^^;
I'd be very happy if wiki would consider adding this to their website. Thanks. --Drow 11:44, 9 November 2006 (EST)

How about calling the page Connection Lost: A Troubleshooting Guide, what do you think? If you like that name, just click on the link to create the page there. If not you can just create the link on your talk page here, and create the page from there. Once you've created the page, we can link it to any protected page that's appropriate. --Chrisjander 11:48, 9 November 2006 (EST)

Or perhaps Troubleshooting: Connection Lost Guide? That way multiple Troubleshooting guides could be created and grouped together. --Gahoo 11:58, 9 November 2006 (EST)
Perhaps 'guide' isn't even necessary in the name, as a Troubleshooting page is assumed to be a technical guide. So maybe just Troubleshooting: Connection Lost ? --Chrisjander 12:06, 9 November 2006 (EST)
Understood --Gahoo 12:09, 9 November 2006 (EST)

Awesome. Troubleshooting: Connection Lost sounds good. I'll lay it out in report form to so if there are any points that need to be discussed it's easier. Then a final draft I can do according to some kind of wiki house style.--Drow 12:36, 9 November 2006 (EST)

If you want to create the page, then continue to work on it without having other people edit it, just throw the {{Construction}} template on it, and it'll warn people that the page is still in development. --Chrisjander 13:55, 9 November 2006 (EST)

Everyone got to this before me. But I agree with what they said. I at first had no idea what you were talking about but I can see how this would be helpful and the final purposed name would be good providing that this page is well done I can see its helpfulness. And as they said - you need to be nominated into Featured Status and I really don't think you can nominate yourself - but if it is good I am sure someone else would. Since this will be a troubleshooting guide, I would insist you be careful with your spelling and your grammar. Thank you. --Nynaeve 14:09, 9 November 2006 (EST)
Yeah my spelling and grammer were really poor in my last few posts. I was really into writing the report and rushed any replies I left here and on your page. Thanks for the feedback. --Drow 18:25, 9 November 2006 (EST)

User Contributions

If you're wondering about your page count so you can accurately put the userbox for it on your userpage, yes, you do have to count them. Fortunately, there's an easy way without having to actually count them line by line. You count in multiples of XXX, usually 500 if you're newer, or 1000 if you're me (I'm somewhere in the 14-15,000 range).

To do this, just go to your user contributions page, and click to show them by 500's. If you wanted to see them by 1000's, you just look at the address bar (htt:// etc) and at the end you'll see "limit=500" somewhere in the line. Just change that number to 1000 and count how many full pages you get. From what I can tell, you're somewhere in between the 100-250 mark, so I think your best bet is to count how many full pages of 100 you have, and then when you hit a page that isn't full, count how many you have on that page and go from there. Hope this wasn't too confusing. --Chrisjander 09:36, 16 November 2006 (EST)

Just so you know - you have like 242 Contribs. ^^ --Nynaeve 09:54, 16 November 2006 (EST)
