When Hitetsu is encountered as a Black Mage, it is very often known to immediately cast an Enfeebling Magic spell (typically Gravity or Bind) and will proceed to run out of melee range and begin casting in quick succession. It is rare for Hitetsu to aggro and any encounter with this NM is generally passive, though if it should aggro, it will almost always use Blizzard IV, Thunder IV, Burst II or Freeze II. Typically seen solo.

The Bard variation can be more difficult to deal with, due to the threat of Lullaby and Elegy. Will often prioritize Elegy over any other song and when /NIN with damage gear on, will frequently use Lullaby to reapply March or Paeon and Utsusemi. If sighted as /WHM, will always have Reraise active and will use it as soon as possible. Typically seen in small parties with 2-3 others.

The Warrior type can be hard defeat if you are unable to absorb attacks from it's Weapon Skills. The general gear this NM wears when it spawns as a Warrior differs depending on enemy and party members. When in a party with only mages, this NM will typically use Scorpion Harness, Evasion Torque and priortise EVA and DEF over ATT and ACC. When in a party with other melee, this NM will often switch between EVA/DEF and ATT/ACC at random. Has been sighted both in a small party and solo.

Though the White Mage variant of this NM does not generally attack, given time to buff before fighting can draw out a fight (if attacked first), for long enough to get links from others nearby. Often seen in a party, this NM is not incredibly easy to beat. Almost always /SMN, because of this the NM has been known to kite enemies around terrain to gain MP back for Cures, buffs and sleeping it's opposition with Repose. Recent sightings have shown this NM also uses a Scholar Support Job to prolong MP and regain huge chunks at once.

If any of these variations are encountered, one weapon skill available to them is "Call Turtle", in which the NM will summon several allies to fight alongside him, this will almost ensure victory and caution should be taken if the NM uses this ability.
