Notes:

  • Spawned by trading a Clustered Tar to the ??? in the back of the cave at J-9; the cave entrance is at southeast corner of I-9. The ??? reappears 15 minutes after the NM dies.
  • Item Drops: Soboro Sukehiro drops ~50% of the time.
    • If you fight the NM on Firesday it seems to drop more frequently than 50%
    • It is rumored that the drop % of Soboro Sukehiro lowers each time he succesfully Self-Destructs, having the biggest drop % when killed with all three bombs still alive.
      • Contrary to this, my party went 3/3 with 1 bomb left and 0/4 with 2 bombs left.
      • Drop Rates are all luck. With 18 kills, 1/10 with 1 bomb, 1/4 with 2 bombs, and 2/4 with 3 bombs remaining. I'm sure with more 3 bomb kills, more would have dropped.
  • Killable by: A balanced group (mages, Paladin tank, melee with Ninja subjobs) of at least 6 characters in this level 50 capped area; Stun is necessary to prevent Self-Destruct.
    • Black Mages are needed for Stun. Blue Mage's Head Butt is not enough to prevent Self-Destruct. With 4 Blue Mages using Head Butt, it would still explode. 1 Black Mage Stun prevented it every time. 2 for Stun rotation would have been better.
    • Blue Mage's Head Butt and Stun weaponskills are dangerous to use on this mob, while both will Stun normal attacks slowing it's tp build, if they are done too close to Self-Destruct, it can cause the message that the BLM or DRK's "Stun has no effect on the Unstable Cluster." allowing the Self-Destruct to go off.
    • Can be killed with no casualties by a party of well-equipped Summoners using Carbuncle and meds.
  • While a Blue Mage is not an effective means to Stun Self-Destruct, having one can make fighting Unstable Cluster a lot easier. Head Butt spam from a Blue Mage or two will keep Unstable Cluster from using most special attacks, and result in a much smoother run.
  • Is not very susceptible to Sleep and Sleep II, they may work but should not be depended upon to do so. Elemental Seal Sleep will work. Light Shot is also useful for sleep, as well as a sleep-stun for Self-Destruct.
  • Is susceptible to Slow, seems to resist Paralyze and Blind.
  • Special Attacks: Permanent Blaze Spikes, normal Cluster specials. Refueling can be dispelled. Attacks per round are equal to the amount of bombs remaining in the Cluster i.e. Triple Attack at pop, Double Attack if one bomb Self-Destructs. Starts using Self-Destruct as one of his TP moves at 55% health.
  • About 10,000 HP.
