Job Trait Overview

Game Description
Increases chance that treasure will be dropped by enemies.
  • As of the December 6, 2010 update, treasure hunter has a chance to increase in tier with each attack the thief lands in a "Additional effect" like fashion.
"<Player hits <mob> for X points of damgage."
"Additional effect: The <mob>'s Treasure Hunter effectiveness increases to <tier>."
    • This effect can stack with each successive hit, increasing the overall Treasure Hunter tier.
    • Also any Treasure Hunter+ equipment worn will increase the tier. eg. You have Treasure Hunter III on it's own, the first additional effect will increase the tier to 4 or if you have Treasure Hunter III and a Thief's Knife equipped, it will increase to 5 on the first hit and so on...
  • With only the TH III trait, the addition effect always procs at 4 to start. Again, with no gear adding bonuses.

  • Attacks landed with Sneak Attack or Trick Attack grants a higher chance of increasing "treasure hunter effectiveness."
  • Unlike most other job traits, Treasure Hunter and Treasure Hunter II are considered two separate job traits.
  • If more than one player has the effect in a party or alliance, the strongest version will trump all others.
  • This effect will remain active as long as the person with this trait is in the party/alliance, on the hate list of the mob (performed some action on the mob to generate hate), and within experience points range. Some amount of enmity is retained after a player is KO'ed, and also per SE commentary, the treasure hunter effect will remain even after the player has been KO'ed.
  • Treasure Hunter is not affected by amount of damage, "luck" items, or who makes the "killshot", nor does it have any effect on chests, coffers, or caskets (including those in battlefields).
  • For clarification, it should be stated that Treasure Hunter does in fact improve the drop rates of rare/ex marked items. As for key items, it is unknown for sure whether there is an effect; check the discussion page for more information.
  • Monsters with a pre-set number of dropped items, or other special circumstances may not be affected by Treasure Hunter.
  • The exact formula for calculating the effects of this trait is still unknown.

TH After Dec Update

  • Gear will only effect initial proc level of Treasure Hunter
    • Everyone's base Treasure Hunter is considered zero.
    • A level 90 THF with no Treasure Hunter gear will proc @ 4 (3 from traits + 1 from proc)
    • Treasure Hunter on 90 THF with 3x Treasure Hunter pieces (Thief's Knife, Assassin's Armlets, etc) will proc @ 7 (3 from traits + 3 from gear + 1 from proc)
  • Each proc increases the value of Treasure Hunter by 1. Gear does not effect after the initial hit.
    • As such, you may hit the mob once with Treasure Hunter gear on (even without proccing), then switch out of Treasure Hunter gear, but maintain the initial Treasure Hunter level.
  • Critical hits, Sneak Attack, and a certain damage threshold seem to proc it more frequently.
  • Only the first hit of an attack round may proc (meaning that using multi-hit weapons will not help you proc more frequently).

Testing and Theory

The following information is a list of testing, hypothetical ideas, and theory on TH.
The information stems from the player-base, not SE. Testing should be read and considered with some amount of skepticism, and theory with further skepticism.

Treasure Hunter doesn't increase the drop rate % of an item, but instead gives you more chances to receive the item.
For Example: Say an item has a 5% drop rate. A player without Treasure Hunter gets 1 random "roll" from say 1-100. A roll of 96-100 is required to get the drop (given a 5% chance). Treasure Hunter doesn't increase the %, but rather it gives more random "rolls" increasing the odds much like buying more lottery tickets would increase odds in hitting the jackpot. The percentage is still the same, you just have more chances. This is why when a thief is in a party, there are often more total drops in general.
