There are also chests which are not monsters and which contain treasures. They are found in some dungeons throughout Vana'diel. In order to open a chest, you need either a key, or a lock-picking tool if you're a Thief. The keys to open the chests are dropped from specific mobs, usually in the same zone that the chest is located.

When you open a chest you will either randomly get one of the possible items, some gil, or a quest item if you have a pertaining quest active.
