  • Hi,

When I fed my treant a potion it transformed into a Green foliage treant. That's why I added Potion.

    • Hi, if what you say is true, then one or both of the previously listed evolution foods is incorrect. If so, I suspect one is a Normal evolution, not needing any specific evolution food, and the other needs a specific food for a variant evolution. From looking at this page [1], it appears the green treant should be the Normal evolution, and should not have Fiend Blood. Potion, or any specific food listed, and the red treant is probably supposed to be fiend blood. I've only raised the green; it was a while ago, and I don't remember what I fed the sapling, probably water. I will try to verify by raising a sapling or 3.

    • Well, that's depressing. Someone decided I didn't experience what I just experienced, it seems.

So, I guess I should stop trying to add to the wiki... very sad.

    • Since both the other wikis agreed that Potions were for red treants, and we also, any changes to the original data would have to be verified. I will rear a sapling or 2 and see what develops; that "Normal" with "Fiend Blood" listing can't be right regardless, it's one or the other, and makes me suspect something may be amiss.

    • Hi. So, since giving a treant a potion resulted in a green leaf treant for me and a red leaf treant for you, it seems that you don't get the same result for the same food each time, or there is some other factor.

    • Hi, after mulling this over a bit, I can only come up with 2 explanations so far. And I do think u get the same result for the same food each time, from my observations of other evolutions.

One, I'm guessing u had it on parenting style "Personal Growth", and u maybe fed it the Potion one day, maybe close to Japanese Midnight even, and continued to play thru JM that day without checking your monsters (or maybe u just didn't log on that day). Then, u logged on the following day after the next JM, and checked your monsters, where it had evolved to green. But it did not evolve from the Potion after the 1st JM; rather, it evolved to the regular, "normal" green evolution after the 2nd JM, after not being fed by u the day after u fed it the Potion.

Two, that, in addition to the "special" foods that boosts monsters over the "variant" evolutionary hump and the "enjoying the moment" normal evolution block, there's normal evolution "special" foods that also boost monsters over the "enjoying the moment" normal evolution block, like the "variant" special foods do.

Might I suggest rearing another sapling to see if u can duplicate your result, especially since I'm guessing u were trying for a red one anyway?  :) I am rearing another sapling with just water to verify what its "normal" evolution is. After reaching 3 stars growth, I will put it on "enjoying the moment" for 10 water feedings to see if it evolves, then, if it doesn't, put it on "personal growth" with water feedings (or no feedings) til it evolves.

    • That sounds plausible. I wasn't sure what "normal" meant or how personal growth works. I'll try what you suggest.

    • Hi. So, I raised another treant and it became a red foliage treant after giving it a potion. I've only ever had monsters set to "personal growth".

    • Related, maybe. I raised a sea monk. It's been on "personal growth". After it got 3 full stars I fed it a Denizanasi and it shuddered. Then the next day it was still a larva. So, I did the same the next day and it shuddered again. On the third day I found it had transformed to a Sea Monk. So, there must be some other factor

    • I raised 3 Blue Sea Monks with Denizanasi, but had the first larva evolve into a Sea Monk when I missed a feeding. So, it seems that feeding "special" variant feed works immediately; you can zone out and back in to your Mog Garden to see the result, if it evolved or not on the dice roll. Then, Japanese midnight comes around again, and, if you're on Personal Growth and the critter is at 3 stars, there's a "normal" evolutionary dice roll that occurs, from which it could evolve or not.

So, if you want the "variant" evolution, you should feed the special feed before it reaches 3 stars (if you're leaving it on Personal Growth), or, you should put it on Enjoying the Moment to ensure it doesn't go thru a "normal" evolution. That seems to be what's happening to you.

    • Interesting. Thanks, I'll try that out.

    • Hi. I'm trying to raise an Alabaster Lizard, so I fed rotten meat to my baby lizard before 1 star was full, and it evolved into a Lizard (and it shuddered). So, maybe it has to be 2 stars? What do you think?

I noticed there are at least 2 different emotes after feeding the special food, but didn't note them.

    • Oh yeah. I fed a Cockatrice Quus right after it was born and it did not shudder. So, maybe it has to be after some development.
