A targe was fairly large shield that was usually flat and round. It might be embossed or have studs. Similar to a [[Buckler]] but equipped with multiple enarmes (leather straps riveted onto the inside portion of a shield, allowing the shield to be gripped or strapped to the arm) for both the hand and the forearm, it might also be called a target shield.
