Damage Over Time

I'm not sure how widespread this knowledge is, but recent tests have suggested that elemental debuffs' damage per tick depends solely on the caster's INT. More specifically:

Caster's INT Damage per Tick
INT < 57 Untested
57 <= INT < 70 2
70 <= INT < 96 3
96 <= INT < 99 Untested
100 <= INT < 132 4
132 <= INT Untested

If someone has some free time, please verify the above data and flesh it out a bit more. Specifically...

  • Can your DoTs do 1/tick below 40 INT? (bring someone's low level BLM!)
  • Test the [96,99] range to verify that 100 INT is the minimum for 4/tick.
  • Can you get over 5/tick, or is there a hard cap at 4? (Bring a bard!)
  • Is Damage per Tick = floor ((INT + 20) / 30) the correct equation for this relationship?

I have another question for you... does the tick rate vary depending on Day of the Week, like damage for Enspells do? --Chrisjander 19:42, 28 June 2006 (PDT)

I haven't tested this myself, but I believe tick rate for all DoTs is fixed at 3 seconds. --Ichthyos 19:46, 28 June 2006 (PDT)

I'm sorry, I misspoke, I meant the per tick rate, not the frequency of the ticks. Like, 3/tick, 2/tick etc. --Chrisjander 20:12, 28 June 2006 (PDT)

Ah, I misread hehe, I apologize. That's a very good question! Maybe we can get that answered as well. --Ichthyos 21:35, 28 June 2006 (PDT)

I've tested the 96-100INT range and the transition does occur at 100. Also, below the 70-99 range, only one transition can occur between 1hp/tic and 2hp/tic. I have found a transition at 40 INT so the remaining unfilled portion is most likely:
1-39INT 1hp/tic
40-69INT 2hp/tic

The stat down effect is testable in Ballista as well as verifiable in the normal game using Burn since for elemental magic, increasing your int or decreasing your target's INT has the same effect.
