I think this should be split into two articles: Damage Over Time and Damage Over Time (spells)--Dragonspight 07:15, 26 October 2006 (EDT)

I think the first section should be deleted. The term DoT refers only to spells and is irrelevant to melee combat. --Kerwyn 06:55, 7 January 2007 (EST)

Agreed. Having a double meaning here is rather confusing, the first defintion being a gross misrepresentation of what RPG's generally accept. A DoT is typically damage dealt in increments over a period of time, such examples being Poison, Dia, Rasp, etc. You apply some spell, debuff or effect ONCE and damage *ticks* for whatever its duration is. If you're saying Melee DPS is considered a "DOT" because, literally you are dealing Damage Over Time, then anything could be classified as such.

The proper term should be DPS, DPM or even DPH when discussing melee damage over the course of a fight. DoT's should be restricted to the aforementioned effects with periodic damage, and not auto-attacking Melee.

DoT Spells building TP?[]

I want to put this out here so that someone can attempt to disprove this (because I'm tired of trying to convince people that it doesn't).

According to numerous people on Remora server, using a DoT Spell on a mob allows them to obtain a level of TP Gain equal to that of a low Regain (Supposedly like 2 % a tic).

While leveling my BLU, I have never taken notice of such an acceleration, but since I am never able to create a repeatable situation to test this supposed theory, I'm making a note of it on the DoT page and requesting that multiple people help me eliminate this stupid rumor.

This is probably not true. In Ballista, DoT spells do not give TP(but of course, players with dot spells and monsters can take effects differently). Also, Avesta Solo Cactrot Rapido video Avesta uses Poison II(DoT) to damage Rapido without giving it TP. It's an hour long fight, if it did give TP, it would have used a TP move multiple times since it was an hour long fight. So it's probably not true that DoT spells give a regain-like-effect to mobs.
