Regardless of San d'Oria fame or job level, Dauperiat will not give you this quest until you have attained Rank 3. It has nothing to do with whether you can enter Chateau d'Oraguille, it's just a flat out requirement... unusual for a quest, but there it is. -- Kreutz 00:33, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

I accepted the quest from Dauperiat, but didn't complete it by giving him the floor plans. Contrary to the way the quest page is worded (which claims you won't be able to start Vamorcote's quest if you accept this quest), I was still able to flag and complete The Setting Sun quest.

Claim that Blackmail decreases fame

I tested the claim that this quest lowers fame. I raised my fame from level 3 to 4 through the quest Starting a Flame. The NPC for this quest is right next to the fame checker. After every trade of flint stones, I checked my fame. As soon as I received the level 4 message, I stopped trading stones and completed this quest. When I checked my fame again, it was still level 4. Just to be sure, I repeated this quest three more times, but my fame never dropped back to level 3. Theoretically, it may be possible that this quest does lower fame, but that it is impossible for fame to de-level. If this is the case, however, it would seem impossible to prove. More likely, I think, is that this quest does not in fact lower fame. So I have removed that claim. -- Niktendo 09:01, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

I was at fame 3, near fame 4. I completed Blackmail for the first time. My fame did not change. I then did two more repetitions of Starting a Flame. I had done that quest before. My fame increased from level 3 to level 4. This demonstrates that any fame decrease from Blackmail is, in quantity, equivalent to or lower than a single repetition of Starting a Flame. Therefore, any fame decrease from Blackmail is fairly insignificant, or equal to or less than 4 Flint Stones. Since it has been shown that Blackmail cannot decrease your fame level, this about as small a limit as we will ever find for the alleged fame decrease. We could compile a list of which Fame 1 quests have equal to or greater than quantity changes to Blackmail, but that wouldn't accomplish much. It's actually possible that Blackmail increases your fame. In conclusion, Do not worry about any potential fame decrease associated with this quest, unless you find 4 Flint Stones to be a big deal. --Zylo 10:35, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
