anybody know how often the zanshin effect kicks in?
While killing crabs in kuftal for about 45 minutes, I saw Zanshin go off twice. The proc rate seems to be fairly low, so I would say it is maybe something like a 1-5% chance. I had attempted to see if Zanshin would go off with a severely under-leveled weapon, but did not notice it after 10-20 misses. I was actually surprised when it went off earlier today, as I had pretty much given up hope of it actually giving the ability.--Coflsilk 22:19, 31 March 2007 (EDT)
Part of it may be Zanshin itself. Even when /SAM, I rarely notice Zanshin go off. It doesn't seem to have that great an activation rate to begin with... --FFXI-Kyrial 17:00, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
I've heard that this and other Zanshin+ pieces are all +5%. However, even the job trait Zanshin is hardly worth writing home about, because best case scenario, Zanshin+10% (the trait) is the rough equivalent of +5 accuracy. That is ONLY when your accuracy is at 50%, because you need to get the balance of the highest number of misses you can proc zanshin on and the highest hit rate so you actually land the zanshin hit instead of just whiffing that too. Consider at 80% accuracy before zanshin:
10,000 swings @ 80% acc.
8,000 hits
2,000 misses @ 5% Zanshin
+100 Zanshin swings
80 Zanshin hits

8080 total hits
80.8% "adjusted" accuracy
That's less than Accuracy+2. At best, it's a very marginal side effect. Never negative as it can't hurt you, but nothing to write home about and DEFINITELY nothing worth equipping for.--Bsphil 16:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
To this logic I have to counter: A Zanshin attack gains +35 Accuracy, so at 80% accuracy you'd gain 95 swings from Zanshin, not 80 for an "Adjusted" accuracy of 80.95. Orenwald 04:31, February 12, 2010 (UTC)
