Historical Background[]
A swordbreaker was a type of dagger with serrations or cutouts along one side, designed to catch and entangle an opponent's blade. It takes its name from the fact that a skilled wielder was supposedly able to break the blade of his/her opponent's sword by catching it in one of the cutouts and twisting it hard, thus (supposedly) snapping the blade in half (this would theoretically be possible with a sufficiently strong wielder and/or a poorly tempered sword). Like the Main Gauche, it was intended to be used in the left hand along with a rapier or saber in the right.
The Swordbreaker appeared in Final Fantasy VI and Tactics Advance/A2. In VI, the Swordbreaker had a +30% Evade bonus; in Tactics Advance the dagger was equippable only by Thieves/Jugglers, possessing the Thief Skill "Steal: Weapon"; in Tactics Advance A2, the dagger was equippable by a larger range of jobs, possessing both the Thief Skill "Loot lv.3", and the Juggler Skill "Dagger Toss".
