Job Ability

  • Gradually creates a storage of MP while reducing your HP. The effect ends once an MP limit is reached, or your HP has gone too low. The stored MP is then transferred to your MP pool by using the ability a second time.
  • Obtained: Scholar Level 35
  • Recast Time: 30 seconds after the ability is reactivated
  • Duration (Charging): Until MP stored is 25% of Max HP or until HP ≤ 50% (Max Sublimation will increase its value by 10 per Merit Point).
  • Duration (Charged): 2 hours

Notes/Description

  • The effectiveness of Sublimation in converting HP to MP increases based on your SCH's current level. This extends to SCH as a subjob as well (for example, SCH as a subjob at 90 will convert 2 HP → 3 MP).
    • Lv. 35: 2 HP → 2 MP per tick
    • Lv. 45: 2 HP → 3 MP
    • Lv. 55: 2 HP → 4 MP
    • Lv. 65: 2 HP → 5 MP
    • Lv. 75: 2 HP → 6 MP
    • Lv. 85: 2 HP → 7 MP
    • Lv. 95: 2 HP → 8 MP
  • Equipment that enhances Sublimation (Scholar's Mortarboard, Argute Gown, Savant's Earring and Siriti) convert an additional 1 HP to MP per tick, as long as those items are equipped. For example, a lv. 85 scholar wearing a Scholar's Mortarboard and an Argute Gown will convert 4 HP to 9 MP per tick with Sublimation; if the Mortarboard is removed, Sublimation will immediately begin converting 3 HP to 8 MP instead.
  • Stored MP appears as an icon at the top of your screen with a little arrow (while charging) and a circle (when full). The ability needs to be used a second time to transfer the stored MP to your usable MP pool. Sublimation can be activated before charging is complete, to return the MP stored up to that point.
  • Your character’s HP will slowly decrease while storing MP. You will be unable to enter healing mode or log out while this ability is in effect. (Stoneskin will absorb damage, allowing resting or logging out.) Though they offset the HP loss, Regen effects do not allow resting while charging. The HP drain effect of Sublimation: Activated prevents Sleep.
  • The MP limit is 25% of your max HP (before applying "Converts HP to MP gear"). The MP limit is calculated throughout the duration of the "charging" time. This means you cannot equip HP+ gear to restore more MP upon activation, then switch back to normal gear for the charging time, although it is possible to increase the MP limit by equipping HP+ gear before charging is complete.
    • The MP limit is not affected by Max HP Boost effects from items such as Body Boost. It is also not affected by food that increases HP.
    • Convert HP to MP gear (such as Serket Ring and Astral Ring) does not decrease the max limit for sublimation. However HP-/MP+ gear (such as Electrum Ring) will.
    • The MP limit is affected by equipment with +HP. For instance, Gigant Mantle has +80HP, which increases the maximum Sublimation charge by 20 MP. +HP% equipment like Llwyd's Clogs will not increase the limit.
    • While in Salvage, the Debilitation (HP) pathos must be removed with a Humilus Cell before Sublimation can be used, as the ability will complete charging immediately due to the 60% reduction of HP Max. (One can get around this with the use of Stoneskin; however, you must be at full HP before activating Sublimation or it will not continue charging.)
  • This effect persists when changing zones, although it will wear off when entering or exiting a BCNM-type battlefield.
    • The "Sublimation: Activated" (charging) effect will wear at the completion of a Campaign Battle or Besieged. A "Sublimation: Complete" charge, however, will not wear at the completion of a Campaign Battle.
    • A completed charge will not wear when logging off or shutting down.
    • This effect wears when entering a Mog House or Rent-a-Room, unless the ability has completed charging.
  • Refresh (Status Effect) from drinks, the Red Mage spell Refresh or the Blue Mage spell Battery Charge will not take effect while the Sublimation effect is active, either charging or fully charged. Activating Sublimation overwrites an existing Refresh or Battery Charge. Refresh II will overwrite Sublimation.
  • Having Sublimation active will not cause Invisible to wear off.

Macro Syntax

Background

In Nietzschean philosophy, as well as in Freudian psychoanalytic theory, sublimation is the redirection of negative emotions and repressed, unconscious drives (in Freud) or a suppressed will to power (Nietzsche) to creative, healthy outlets, often either artistic or spiritual.

Also, in chemistry, sublimation is the process by which solids are transformed directly to the vapor state without passing through the liquid phase. Example: Dry ice (solid carbon dioxide) changes directly to carbon dioxide gas without passing through a liquid state.
