Derivations[]
Stygian means related to Styx, a river in ancient Greek mythology that the souls of the dead were ferried across into Hades. The "ash" signifies that this river could be a burning one. It is probably no coincidence that you have to throw this at a monster named after Ixion, who supposedly resides in Tartarus, in the deepest reaches of Hades, to get it to engage you.
