Historical Background

Strider was the nickname that J.R.R. Tolkien gave to Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings, but his original nickname was Trotter. It was only after the story was completed that Tolkien changed his name to Strider. Whether the naming of the two boots is intentional on SE's part is unknown, but it is coincidental that Rangers are one of only two jobs that can wear them.
