During the Crystal War, these military tacticians often served as high-ranking officers in allied forces across Vana'diel. Extensive knowledge of ancient martial theory granted Scholars (SCH) the ability to wield dual schools of magic, between which they would alternate depending on the situation at hand.

Stratagems[]

These unique Job Abilities become available when using Light Arts or Dark Arts, collectively known as a scholar's Grimoire.

  • The abilities available within Stratagems correspond to the school of Arts that the scholar currently has activated. If the Scholar does not have an Arts effect active, no abilities are displayed. Stratagems do not have a recast time. Instead, they operate on a charge-based system. A Scholar consumes a charge when he/she activates a Strategem. After a certain amount of time, the charge is refreshed. The maximum available charges and the amount of time until a charge is restored are based on the Scholar's level. (see table)
  • When using the "/recast" text command with a specific Strategem (such as "/recast Celerity"), the log displays the amount of time remaining until a new charge is generated, as well as the current number of charges available.
  • When displayed, it appears like this: [Celerity] 1:13 (2)

Active stratagems remain available for up to one minute or until a compatible spell is cast. Spells cast that are incompatible with an activated Stratagem have their normal effect. Addendum: White and Addendum: Black are exceptions to this rule. Once active, they modify your current arts effect and remain active as long as that Arts effect is active.

  • As of March 2012, all stratagems use a single charge.

  • Altruism: This Job Ability increases the Magic Accuracy of your next White Magic spell by 5 per level.
  • Focalization: This Job Ability increases the Magic Accuracy of your next Black Magic spell by 5 per level.
  • Tranquility: This Job Ability recues the Enmity generated by your next White Magic spell by 10 per level.
  • Equanimity: This Job Ability reduces the Enmity generated by your next Black Magic spell by 10 per level.
  • Enlightenment: This Job Ability unlocks the use of one spell of your chice from either Grimoire regardless of your current stance. Each additional level increases your INT and MND by 5 points.
  • Stormsurge: Storm spells now also grant an elementally-aligned stat bonus when active on party members. Additional levels increase the bonus.

  • Tabula Rasa Effect: Recover caster's MP by 2% per rank when Tabula Rasa is activated.
  • Light Arts Effect: Increase the effect duration of Regen by 3 seconds per rank while under the effects of Light Arts.
  • Caper Emissarius Effect: Recovers the target's HP by 2% per rank when using Caper Emissarius.
  • Dark Arts Effect: Increases the effect duration of Helix spells by 3 seconds per rank while under the effects of Dark Arts.
  • Stratagem Effect: Increases magic accuracy of spells tied to either Light Arts when Penury activates, or Dark Arts when Parsimony activates by 1 per rank.
  • Stratagem Effect II: Reduces casting times of spells tied to either Light Arts when Celerity activates, or Dark Arts when Alacrity activates by 1% per rank.
  • Stratagem Effect III: Increases magic damage of spells tied to either Light Arts when Rapture activates, or Dark Arts when Ebullience activates by 2 per rank.
  • Stratagem Effect IV: Reduces the recast time of spells tied to either Light Arts when Accession activates, or Dark Arts when Manifestation activates by 2% per rank.
  • Modus Veritas Effect: Increases damage over time when using Modus Veritas by 3 per rank.
  • Sublimation Effect: Increases the maximum amount of MP accumulated from Sublimation by 3 per rank.
