Historical Background

The facts and meaning of the Sai are mysterious, but the origins of this name and shape of the katana are of Okinawan descent. Suggestions for how this katana is used in the game are historically incorrect, as the Sai does not have "blades", but only a sharpened end, in which the character "slashes" outward or upward, depending on the character used in the game. In reality, this would have little effect, due to the only the points being sharp, not the edges. The romaji of "釵" that Squarenix chose to use is phoentically "Sai", but there is lack of a meaning for the kanji.
