Historical Background
Bailaor is the Spanish word for a Flamenco dancer. Flamenco is a Spanish dance which originated in Andalusia (southern Spain) which has its origins in Moorish and Jewish traditions, and was significantly shaped by the Gitanos (gypsys [Roma] living in Spain & Portugal) (all 3 were widely persecuted peoples in the Kingdom of Spain). Flamenco peaked in culture in Spain from 1869-1910 during "the golden age of flamenco"
