Wards are abilities that reduce elemental damage, increase the rune fencer's defensive prowess, and do not require the expenditure of harbored runes to activate.
Effusions are abilities that add elemental damage to attacks and increase the rune fencer's offensive prowess, but harbored runes must be expended to activate them.
