A magical sword, Ridill was one of the treasures the dragon Fafnir hoarded. In the Völsung cycle, Ridill was also the sword with which Reginn (according to Fáfnismál) or Sigurðr (according to Völsunga saga, 19) cuts out Fáfnir's heart after he is killed.
