Notes:

  • Spawned by Quest: Sharpening the Sword
  • Appears to have instant cast.
  • Deals averagely 100 damage a hit to a 69 mnk/pld.
  • Deals minimal damage to a 75 DRG/WHM, and is soloable by most level 75 jobs.
  • Extremly resistant to any earth based enfeebles, eg. slow.
  • High defense with most attacks 10-20 damage.
  • High magic defense, Aero III from a RDM75 did 101 damage consistently.
  • Has very low HP, DoT/kiting is a fast and efficient method.
  • Continually resisted Requiem and Elegy even with Soul Voice from a 69 bard.
  • Soloable by 72 WHM/BLM without much trouble. Keeping silence, bio/dia and paralyze on him and stoneskin, blink and barstona on yourself.
  • Soloable by 75 BRD/NIN. Keep up Utsusemi and use Magic Finale, when he casts stoneskin.

Historical Background

In Eastern Slavic folklore, the Polevik (also spelled Polewik, Polevoi), was a field spirit. It appeared as dwarf with grass in the place of hair and 2 eyes, each of a different color. He appears at noon or sunset, wearing all white or all black. He would lead anyone wandering in the fields astray or, if they fell asleep in the field, give them diseases. To appease the Polevik, an old rooster, a toad, and 2 eggs, and in some accounts, a crow also must be placed in a ditch in that field.
