Derivations[]
- Plunderer: A word acquired from the Dutch plunderen via the Thirty Years War and applied in native use after the outbreak of the Civil War in 1642, meaning one who robs goods or valuables by open force.
- Poulaines: The term poulaine, as in souliers a la poulaine, "shoes in the Polish fashion", referred to the long pointed beak of the shoe, not the shoe itself. Shoes with extremely long toes were very popular in the 15th century. (Wikipedia)
