Historical Background

In Tamil folklore (the Tamil inhabit Sri Lanka), the Pey are servants of Yama (lord of death in Hindu belief), depicted as monstrous humans covered in hair who act like vampires, feedling on the wounded on battlefields, drinking their blood and guaranteeing they die.
