Historical Background[]

In Finnish mythology, Para were household spirits who steal from others and enrich the residents of that home. It can take the form of a frog, cat, hare, or snake. They frequently steal milk from other people's cows, coagulate it in their stomach, and then regurgitates it into the churn of the woman of the house (since churning milk to butter was a task frequently assigned to women). Some reports depicted it as a humanoid-like being with 3 legs. If a certain type of mushroom was fried in tar, salt, and sulfur, and then beaten with a rod, the owner of the Para will appear and plead with the creator of that mushroom concoction to spare the Para because that mushroom is the form of the Para during the day (which explains why Para is a Funguar enemy). It was considered a local variant of the Pukis (see Fire Pukis, Wind Pukis, Poison Pukis, Petro Pukis) and Aitvaras.
