Background

Mordant has many meanings, of which are

  • sharply caustic or sarcastic, as wit or a speaker; biting.
  • burning; corrosive.

Rime is most commonly know as an accumulation of granular ice tufts on the windward sides of exposed objects that is formed from supercooled fog or cloud and built out directly against the wind. Rime is also an archaic and little used alternate spelling of rhyme, such as in the Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
