If you are unable to log in to the wiki because "Your login session has timed out"Edit

Our Wiki URL was recently changed, and I was unable to login after the change. Everytime I logged in to this wiki, I got an error saying that my login session had timed out.

Eventually, what I did was this, and other users can use this as a workaround until the glitch is fixed:

Login to

Then come back to and you will be logged in to this wiki as well. I am going to notify Wikia admins of this issue if persists tomorrow or if other users say they have experienced this issue. --16:51, May 23, 2015 (UTC)

If you have encountered blank pages on the wiki, please read this:Edit

A wiki glitch struck us at the beginning of July. Several pages now appear to be blank. However, the wiki software does not recognize them as blank, so I can't track them down using admin tools.

If you encounter a blank page, anyone can fix this issue! Simply hit edit, then publish, and the entire page should return to the wiki. You don't even have to make an edit; simply enter edit mode, then hit publish. Thanks for your assistance, everyone!--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 23:02, July 7, 2014 (UTC)

Tango or not to Tango Edit

Heh, that's OK, I think. It will be solved eventually, or if not, well then be it! Thanks for the message! ^^ « The Noob Unlimited » 02:10, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the belated reply, haven't been playing much lately and thus, haven't been around here either. Also, it seems I didn't notice your message in the talk page until now though looking at the date, it was before my reply above, which was to the private'ish message, perhaps due to the new wikia and some things being disabled confusion...

Anyhoo, I can't remember for certain when I first got the quest, or even tried to, but I would guess I did take it after the Mhaura scene, but can't be sure... If my brother starts playing again and we do these missions for him, or if I help someone else with it, then I can look into it more but as it is now, I really can't remember. I do think you got it pretty well down, though, and indeed mentioning your findings on the talk page will surely inspire other players to find our more about it!

As a conclusion, I can only say, keep up the good work! ^^ « The Noob Unlimited » 22:47, November 7, 2010 (UTC)

Flotsam Edit

You, sir, have saved the flotsam page from becoming utter chaos. Thanks :)

THANKS!!! Edit

Thanks so much for the quick response and linking them back together. I find that FFXIclopedia to be the most complete and detailed MMORPG database I've encountered in all the MMO's that I've played - and I know it takes a lot of hard work to keep it that way too. Thanks again!!

Rare template Edit

Should I be using "File:trans-rare.gif" or "Rare2"? I saw my mistake, in that using "Rare" causes the page to show up on the Rare items list. Korvana (talk) 08:46, July 30, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, you should use one of those instead of Template:Rare unless it's an item page that you want categorized as Rare. As for which you use, it can be either one: they're exactly the same, because all that Template:Rare2 does is insert Trans-rare. I'm actually going to start using {{Rare2}} just because it's a lot easier to type. I couldn't recall which template inserted the image without the category, so I was just typing the image's filename.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 18:23, July 30, 2013 (UTC)

Hybrid ElementalsEdit

Each of the elementals (Byrgen, Gefyrst, Baelfyr, and Ungeweder) have their own subspecies. They are as follows:

My jp is a little rusty but those are the basic translations as best I could do.--Hakrev (talk) 07:57, August 17, 2013 (UTC)

I don't know a lot about Japanese, but those look like nothing more than Japanese versions of the English names. So, I'm guessing that SE doesn't lump them together like we have with the Hybrid Elementals category, and that's been my suspicion for a while: that each of those dual-elementals should be a separate category. BG and ZAM lump them with normal elementals, while GE gives each hybrid elemental type its own category. Considering how Seekers of Adoulin has named them things like Speleothem Ungeweder and Treefrost Gefyrst, I think it would be most appropriate if we split Hybrid Elemental into 4 categories, and turn Hybrid Elemental into a disambiguation page. This would align with what you say about them being separate, and I think keeping them apart from traditional Elementals is useful from an organizational perspective. I'm going to propose a split on Category:Hybrid Elementals now.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 08:26, August 17, 2013 (UTC)

Here you go, check this page out: That should give you all the subspecies info you need ^^. They have access to a lot more official subspecies then we do as they are released through various magazines, so most of what they say should be correct. The correct classifications break down exactly like this:

Elemental Ecosystem>>Elementals (original species (normal elementals))
                               >>Birugen (subspecies)
                                    >>Brygen (monster)
                               >>Gefirusuto (subspecies)
                                    >>Gefyrst (monster)
                               >>Beilufia (subspecies)
                                    >>Baelfyr (monster)
                               >>Ungeueda (subspecies)
                                    >>Ungeweder (monster)

--Hakrev (talk) 09:00, August 17, 2013 (UTC)

I was right: if you click those subspecies, you'll see there's a / and then the English name. For example, えらすもす/Elasmoth for the black version of behemoths. For this species, it's, for example, びるげん (Birugen)/Byrgen. So those are just the Japanese versions of the names. So, we have some subspecies classified separately (Snolls/Clusters/Djinn are separate from bomb; Moblin and Bugbear are separate from Goblin on our wiki, for example). So really, they belong in Category:Elementals unless we decide they're significant enough to give the subspecies their own pages, like we did for the four types of Bombs. However, keeping the Hybrid Elementals category, which is not recognized by Square-Enix (or any other FFXI site), shouldn't be an option. So it's either split or merge for the hybrid elementals. What do you think, Hakrev?--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 09:21, August 17, 2013 (UTC)

Oh I think I see it now, good grief they make this stuff confusing, it's laid out better on this page: yep that's the jp names alright. BUT it still means that the brygen, baelfyr, ungeweder, and gefyrst are subspecies of elementals so at least we got something out of it.

I'd say lets merge it with the elemental page to keep it nice and simple. --Hakrev (talk) 09:45, August 17, 2013 (UTC)

cool thx allots yes need to be in big form to get the quest. Hello Blue Donkey Kong I work on Peiste (MON) now and I find a glitch on the Peiste (MON). The monster skills of the Peiste (MON) Calcifying Mist is to strong. I can pull multiple enemy monsters Incredibly Tough and stone them and kill them 1 by 1 whit out get 1 hit. This is bad no challenge nothing. And the skill glue for 5 minutes more so like I say no fun at all. If we can use this skill in arena pvp Peiste (MON) will be the strongest monster. SE have to fix this skill --Babedora (talk) 01:25, August 24, 2013 (UTC).

They probably will fix it if it's that good. They've announced on the official forums that they intend to rebalance MONs for PvP, so that's a guaranteed change in my opinion. By the way, remember to type --~~~~ after your post on a talk page to sign your name. :) --Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 01:02, August 24, 2013 (UTC)

Ive leveled all mobs that can be unlocked at level 30 to level 30 so its not just speculation on what can be done in those areas.

Thanks! ^^

Thank you for correction of Parradamo Tor climbing way. :)

Geomancy NavboxEdit

I just wanted to ask you if something can be done, if it's in you power, about the Spell(Infobox) template, cause it seems that it don't recognised Geomancy as magic type all because is not a category:Geomancy Magic. I'm not so sure the full details on how this template works, just that geomnacey goes red and "page does not exist.

--Wolffeberhard (talk) 23:10, September 17, 2013 (UTC)

I noticed this issue too. Instead, copy and paste what's in the following box when editing a Geomancy article.

{{Infobox Geomancy
| Image =
| Description =
| MP =
| Element =
| Geomancer level =
| Casting Time =
| Recast Time =
| Resale Price =
| Notes =

This template fixes the issue; it automatically enters the job as Geomancer and the spell type as Geomancy, and automatically categorizes the page in both Category:Magic and Category:Geomancy. The only category that needs to be added manually is Category:Scrolls if it's an "Indi-" spell. Currently, only Indi-Languor utilizes the template, but it should be applied to all Geomancy spells, because many of those pages are a mess. --Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 05:18, September 18, 2013 (UTC)

  • Yeah planing to go through them to correct them all as it has been nagging me for a while now. but didn't know how. Now with this i can fix them. thanks for the help.--Wolffeberhard (talk) 11:18, September 18, 2013 (UTC)

Geomancer quest flow issuesEdit

Why did you change the Previous Quest & Next Quest info for Elementary, My Dear Sylvie to show For Whom the Bell Tolls?!?! This information couldn't be more wrong. For whom the Bell Tolls pretends to GEO AF and not genkai like Elementary, My Dear Sylvie is. They are two different paths that branches out from Dances with Luopans for the simple fact that one can not move on to the subsequent genkai quests without doing Elementary, My Dear Sylvie if GEO is your 1st job to level all the way to 99. In fact, if GEO is your 1st job to 99, then that means you wouldn't be able to trigger For Whom the Bell Tolls because your job would be still capped by the genkais.

Then we have Previous Quest info for For Whom the Bell Tolls. That is wrong too because this quest doesn't need Elementary, My Dear Sylvie quest to trigger. Even though is not apparent at 1st, due to the fact that Elementary, My Dear Sylvie(@ GEO70 - Genkai) triggers 1st than For Whom the Bell Tolls(@ GEO99 - AF), one can move on into doing For Whom the Bell Tolls without ever doing Elementary, My Dear Sylvie at all. It just gets flagged but doesn't need to be finished for the AF one to start.

In conclusion, the right information as far as Previous Quest & Next Quest info goes for the following quest should be:

Please note that I could have made the changes but I would like you to agree with me before any changes are made about this.--Wolffeberhard (talk) 16:00, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

I appreciate that you didn't make the changes first. The limit break quest is in fact required for GEOs to complete AF. You can still flag limit break quests after completing limit break with another job, and Elementary, My Dear Sylvie takes precedence over For Whom the Bell Tolls. Also, a key character dies in For Whom the Bell Tolls, but he's alive and active in Elementary, My Dear Sylvie, so the game makes sure you complete Elementary, My Dear Sylvie before allowing you to flag For Whom the Bell Tolls. More info on your talk page.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 22:41, October 3, 2013 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you, but do you know if you have to have the quest flagged or done in order to assist someone with the Deranged Ameretat fight for GEO's AF or can one just help them out even if you haven't done For Whom the Bell Tolls?--Wolffeberhard (talk) 23:24, October 17, 2013 (UTC)

Anyone with access to Morimar Basalt Fields is able to help. :) --Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 15:00, October 18, 2013 (UTC)

Thank you ^^

Hi Blue I noticed you added info to the tables I made concerning the amount of Obstacles in colonization reives, can you confirm the information you added is correct for every zone because I seem to remember that there are 2 Knotted Roots in Sih Gates not 3 and I'm not sure about the other areas, If your not sure can you either confirm or remove, and I will go back and recheck myself and add that information. Thanks Skyfawn (talk) 04:57, November 20, 2013 (UTC)

  • Edit* Just finished adding a table for Moh Gates and it seems the amount of obstacles are not consistent, 1 reive had 3 and the other had 1 so if you have no objections I am going to remove that info from the tables.

BGWiki copying Edit

Hello, you seem to be the only active administrator on this wiki, so I am approaching you with this matter. There are a few pages on this wiki that have been obviously copy and pasted from original work contributed to bgwiki. Can you please erase these or at least modify them into an original format because proper credit was not given on the pages. If you view the edit history, it is obvious that they are copies.

Obvious copy/pasted pages:

Funkworkz (talk) 21:16, January 8, 2014 (UTC)

Hello, thanks for the message.

The following actions will be taken (long post; hoping to finalize the issue now):

1. Both FFXI wikis (and all wikis under their parent foundations, Wikia and Mediawiki) expressly permit copying and pasting [1] [2] as long as credit is given. FFXIcyclopedia did not give credit. I am adding credit to all of the above pages to fix this issue.

2. Although the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license does permit exact copying between wikis, I intend to reformat the Coalition pages while retaining credit to BG. Pioneers' Coalition has been remodeled. The others are on my to-do list. This is not necessary according to either Wiki's copyright license; however, the information contained within the coalition pages contained sentences composed by BG editors. Even though this is not necessary because credit has now been given, I feel that BG's users should have their words on their wiki, and we should have our words on our wiki.

3. The Artifact armor pages contain charts copied from BG Wiki. These charts, unlike the information from the coalition pages, contain no user-generated information or phrasing whatsoever; the charts are barebones and inflexible representations of the information within the game. Therefore, reformatting the charts would be frivolous. This is a case in which the allowance of copying/pasting within the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license is beneficial for disseminating information in a timely fashion.

4. Lastly, I have no desire to see entire articles copied between wikis, even though the licenses allow it. That is why I intend to remodel the coalition pages.

--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 05:41, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

I appreciate your reply.

1. Thank you for adding source links.

2. The pages should be formatted as you are doing so the design matches your layout. The design we had did not look very good here, and was pretty much just a slap in the face to our authors. The new layout you made looks good, and I appreciate you keeping source links on the bottom.

3. I agree, but the format and the work to obtain the data was original to bgwiki. Source links are sufficient if you keep the same design.

4. I completely agree that original works and articles should be unique.

Thank you for understanding and cooperating with us. If you find the same problem on bgwiki, please let me know on my talk page.

Funkworkz (talk) 17:35, January 9, 2014 (UTC)

Default Wiki Skin Edit

I just looked into making changes to the default skin and the news isn't great. Here's what I found:

  • It's against Wikia's Terms of Use to reduce the size of the borders because they use the background as advertisement space.
  • Wikia has made it impossible to change the default skin to anything other than the "Wikia" skin. You can change it in your preferences, but not site-wide.

I'm beginning to see the logic behind the move to Gamer Escape... ~ Karuberu (talk) 19:39, January 26, 2014 (UTC)

I don't think the majority of the community embraced Gamer Escape, unfortunately.

However, there is a bright light: the monobook format. It's possible set the wiki display to "monobook" in user settings. This essentially makes this wiki's layout look identical to BGWiki: not flashy, but very practical, and it utilizes the full screen. If the community embraces the idea, we could look into having the Wiki default to monobook, even when users aren't logged in. I don't know if this is possible, but it would completely eliminate the width issue. If it is possible, we should hold a vote. --Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 23:49, January 26, 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately, changing the default to monobook seems to be disabled/prohibited for Wikia-hosted sites (like FFXIclopedia), at least according to what I've read (Tahngarthor could tell you for certain). So it's looking like we're just stuck with what we've got. ~ Karuberu (talk) 00:37, January 27, 2014 (UTC)

To Kill Mocking BirdsEdit

To Kill Mocking Birds Were you able to get the quest 188? b/c I was not able to get at 198, forgot to check at 200, busy doing quests, so was able to check again at 202 and got quest active then. Just curious is all. --FASHNEK talk/ c

Yes, I actually currently have 188 objectives complete, and I accepted the quest a while back, meaning I may have had fewer objectives at that time. Did you complete Petals of Recollection? Also, a note of interest: I received no message suggesting that I talk to Nantoto when I entered Lower Jeuno, which is what happens for Shifty Shades of Prey, but when I talked to her, I got To Kill Mocking Birds.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 15:23, April 13, 2014 (UTC)

I had completed everything when I check with her at 198 (Completed) so not sure why it was so late for me then, interesting. Do you know if any more "RoE" quest are/will be available? Currently at 238 and she just tells me "Listen, we've all decided-wided to go to "Insert area here", then tells a phrase about said area. First was Konschtat Highlands and about floating flowers, now Lufaise Meadows and humongous dragon. Just wanting to know if I'm wasting my time going to these said areas. Because I find no ??? or even get a cutscene when I went to Konschtat. --FASHNEK talk/ c

Same mob?Edit

Can someone please verify if Pachypodium (MON) and Enlightened Mandragora (MON) are the same thing? --FASHNEK talk/ c 09:11, April 16, 2014 (UTC)

They're not; DAT mining has revealed them to be separate menu items, but it's possible that Enlightened Mandragora is completely unobtainable at the current time. We don't know for sure. I'm guessing that Enlighted Mandragora is based on the Seed Mandragora, but it's probably just a placeholder in the menu for now. --Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 00:43, April 20, 2014 (UTC)

Dark Spark key item Edit

On Template:Boghertz Quest, it says you have to click the same torch to get the key item. I did a bunch of quests and you get the key item no matter what torch you click after killing Dark Spark. The page is protected, so I'm just pointing this out so you can edit it accordingly. EtherealMutation (talk) 18:46, May 5, 2014 (UTC)

  • Not to nitpick, but you left a typo on the page. It says "Touch the one of the torches again to receive the Shadow Flames.", where it should say "Touch one of the torches again to receive the Shadow Flames." EtherealMutation (talk) 06:16, May 6, 2014 (UTC)
    • Thanks! I'm glad you pointed that out.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 21:51, May 6, 2014 (UTC)

I noticed that you asked for a verification on Alter Egos's use in Beyond infinity. I have added a post to the talk page regarding my recent experiences.

~--Kujatason (talk) 23:14, May 7, 2014 (UTC)

I found your official forum thread. The fact that no one has testified to being able to use Trust NPCs there is verification enough in my eyes. Thanks for the information!--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 22:03, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Did my reply answer all your questions? Edit

Did my reply answer all your questions about the bond level for Picture Perfect? If not, I'd be happy to discuss it, as I only want valid information in the for not only myself, but everyone. Thank you. --IBHalliwell (talk) 03:26, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, thanks! I realized: I wonder if you only needed bond because this is the one fellow quest not activated in Jeuno? SE's wording makes it seem that simply entering Upper Jeuno is enough to flag Luto's quests, but maybe not the Selbina one. Keep an eye out going forward.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 04:05, May 23, 2014 (UTC)

Hello and thank you for your reply! :-) I'll do as you request and keep an eye out for how and when things occur. BTW, do you have any suggestions on a better way for me to present the information I'm gathering on raising my NPC. Maybe just updating the talk:Adventuring Fellow is enough with the updates. --IBHalliwell (talk) 12:25, May 24, 2014 (UTC)

Is a monster level location article/form possible?Edit

Hello, I'm wondering if it would be possible to have a monster leveling form or whatever one might call or implement it. Specifically, what I'm trying to do is locate monsters of a specific level and say in specific area or areas.

When I level it isn't just job level, but also skills and now capacity and job points. An example is finding the monsters who give capacity points in the "original" (base, Zilart, and Chains of Promathia) areas on a consistent basis. Thus far the only place I know to find monsters fitting this bill are in The Boyahda Tree and only three are in a page. The other areas (e.g. Crawlers' Nest) have monsters level range starting below 96.

At one time I used the now dead monsters website. It would be wonderful if FFXIclopedia had a similar ability either as an article or (best) a form. Maybe this isn't possible, but it would be wonderful for users to be able to use it for skilling and/or job leveling up. --IBHalliwell (talk) 04:00, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

I removed the link from your post about FFXI Atlas: more than dead, it eventually became overrun with ads that if accidentally clicked, installed spyware on your PC to steal your account.

But I think you have a good idea again. Currently, Grounds Tome actually has some of the information you want: in addition to The Boyahda Tree, there's also Fei'Yin, Bostaunieux Oubliette, Toraimarai Canal, Kuftal Tunnel, Labyrinth of Onzozo, and Gustav Tunnel.

I still think it would be great to have a guide specifically dedicated to monster level ranges, because not every zone has a Grounds Tome, and because of that, I don't know if the monsters added to AU and WotG areas fit the level requirement, for example. I mainly dedicate my time to quest and mission walkthroughs, Monstrosity content, monster pages, and monster images, as well as formatting, clean-up, and updating information, and I still don't have enough time for all that, so making guides for other content isn't something that I personally do, but if you want to get that page started, go for it. In the meantime, I'm going to add the list of usable old zones for CP to the Job Points page.

Also, the unsigned comment left above by another user was referring to Arkitanx's Monstrosity Level Guide. --Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 05:03, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

Request for list of the new Adventuring Fellow topic articles (or whatever you call them). Edit

I wanted to thank you for the reorganization you've been doing on the Adventuring Fellow article and breaking it into specialized articles (e.g. faces, equipment, etc). I'd like to request you provide a list of those articles in the main article or in the talk page. A list would be a lot more help to those looking for and contributing information about our fellows than having to look for these individual files using an hunt and peck approach, while reading the main article. Thank you. --IBHalliwell (talk) 03:36, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

Hi, IB,

I think you have a great idea; I'm very busy with my real-life job for the next two weeks, but you are very welcome to implement exactly what you'd like to put in that article. If not, I can add it during the second week of June (possibly sooner).--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 04:47, May 29, 2014 (UTC)

Final Fantasy XI Auction House NOT finding this item, but it is there as "4Lf. Korrin Bud" Edit

I also mentioned this on the talk page for the "Four Leaf Korrin Bud" article. The button / link to the Final Fantasy XI Auction House is NOT working, as it go to an item that does not exist. FFXIAH lists this item as "4Lf. Korrin Bud" and not as Four-Leaf Korringan Bud. So, ah, I'm wondering how do we get it to work properly and still follow the naming methods used here?

Thank you: :-) --IBHalliwell (talk) 01:20, June 8, 2014 (UTC)

Fixed; it seems the item originally had an in-game typo in the name that has been fixed, but we hadn't fixed it here.

The page is now Four-leaf Korrigan Bud and it links to FFXIAH properly. --Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 16:31, June 8, 2014 (UTC)

New EditorEdit

Is this how you do messages on here? if so just wanted to say great working with you and hope I did alright with those pages, first time I have really contributed. -Tetsuji

Yeah, you're pretty exceptional for a new editor. Great job getting us started on the new Alter Egos! Your screenshots for Trust: Lhu Mhakaracca and Trust: Elivira do need to be replaced, because the NPC names aren't displayed. You can retake them if you like, or someone else will eventually. Also, when you leave a message on a talk page, sign it by typing ~~~~ so we know who contributed to a discussion and when.

Thanks for the contributions, and I hope you continue to edit!--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 20:35, June 30, 2014 (UTC)

Alright put up new pictures for both Trust: Lhu Mhakaracca and Trust: Elivira. Thanks again. Tetsuji (talk) 21:05, June 30, 2014 (UTC)

FFXIAH LinksEdit

Hi I noticed you renamed the page I created yesterday from H-P Bayled to High Purity Bayld, I just thought you might like to know my thinking behind using the name that shows in when it is in an inventory rather than on the description I went with H-P Bayld because the link to FFXIAH matches whereas High Purity Bayld is a dead link. I figure with your experience with the wiki you might know how to fix this, could you let me know please because I have come across items before that have mis-matched links to FFXIAH and it would be handy to know how to fix this. Skyfawn (talk) 18:40, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Issue fixed. According to wiki Naming Conventions, the page name should be High-purity Bayld, so that was the reason for the move. Whenever this issue occurs, follow this template:

Thanks for pointing out the issue!--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 21:45, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Hi again, Following the advise you gave me for linking to the AH I am having a problem with this page > Moblin Sheep Leather I wonder if you could take a look at it please and fix the link because I tried several solutions and could not do it, thanks Skyfawn (talk) 18:54, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Hi Skyfawn, problem fixed. The issue was that the correct coding is {{AH|search=Square_of_Moblin_Sheep_Leather}}, but you had {{AH|Search=Square_of_Moblin_Sheep_Leather}}. The S in search cannot be capitalized. For better and for worse, nearly everything on Wikia is case-sensitive. Thanks for all your contributions!--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 21:11, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for reverting it kept not showing the most recent page for myself and a few others so I undid the previous edit which brought it back. The reversion you put up is now showing so it is good and current.

Blanked PagesEdit

I hope I'm leaving this message in the proper place. I complained about blanked pages and you asked which pages have been blanked. It appears I was mistaken. Several pages I've gone to lately appear as blanked but will later load in full. I'm not sure what the problem is but it is apparently NOT a problem on your end. Thanks for getting back to me, though. This is still my preferred reference site for FFXI. I try to update it whenever I have pertinent information to add. Thanks again. ~Zazhi, sylph

I tried to make a forum account to point out this issue but it seems that's there is a problem with the account creation verification emails, I tried 3 times and never received one Skyfawn (talk) 07:48, July 8, 2014 (UTC)

Missing rows from a table, which makes up an item. Edit

I was looking at Lucerewe Meat and noticed every even section was missing. Visually I couldn't see the error, assuming it was a missing closing brace or such. I even tried rebuilding the table, but still the even sections go missing. I see them in the source. This means (at least to me) there are three possibilities:

  1. There is a mistake in the tale, which I don't see. (I think I saw this in other new items, BTW, but am not sure right at this moment.)
  2. The system isn't sending / processing the table directives properly, but this wouldn't explain why some items / articles work 100% perfect.
  3. Something I am not considering.

Take care and thank you for all the hard work you are doing to support this wonderful wiki! :-) --IBHalliwell (talk) 00:59, September 4, 2014 (UTC)

Crafted only items are no longer crafted only ....because of (one time, only) Records of Eminence: Combat (Region) Edit

Hi again! :-)

I have another question on to proper way to handle an issue. I'm bringing this up because I think a good solution might require updating a macro. An example is Phrygian Ring. Prior to Records of Eminence, the only method to obtain this item was through Crafting. Now the Combat (Region) part of Records of Eminence provides this and many other (previously Crafting only) items.

Currently, I've been adding a line to the "How to Obtain" section simply saying: Records of Eminence: Combat (Region). But, honestly this isn't the best solution (just a stop gap, IMHO). The correction might be to update the macro to know about this new / additional (one time, only) method. Thus I bring it to you. --IBHalliwell (talk) 09:32, September 4, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing this out! I think we should treat it as what it is.

Now that it's no longer synthesis-only, that note should be removed.

The formatting for the RoE reward should be the same as quests with the "Quests" headline replaced with "Records of Eminence", but there should be a note that it only gives the reward the first time. For example, the Phrygian Ring page now has:

===[[Records of Eminence]]===
*[[Combat (Region)]]: [[Abyssea - Uleguerand]] (first completion only)

Since it's specified that it's a one-time-only chance, users can refer to the synthesis recipe above to obtain additional items. These RoE items are no different than any other items obtainable one time through a quest and must otherwise be synthesized, so I don't think we really need a new or updated template.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 16:52, September 6, 2014 (UTC)

I totally agree with you and guess what this shows is my lack of understanding the macros used by this wiki.

P.S. Is there a good place to learn about the macros and commands used by this wiki? (See next question about tables and the Anomaly Expert.) I'm learning a lot by simply looking a lot source, such as your reply and the use of <nowiki>

Anomaly Expert Edit

Hi again. I hope I"m not like the bad penny . . . LOL ;-) Anyway, I updated the Anomaly Expert after a lot of frustration with her not wanting to accept the rock I was using. Honestly, I was trying to put the information into two tables, but it kept failing and I could never figure it out. I think now I understand why, as what I was doing was putting the tables inside the infobox, though, I thought I was working outside the infobox. As my first impression was to put it into table format, I'd have no objection to someone moving the information into two (2) tables (one for each subsection). --IBHalliwell (talk) 04:48, September 8, 2014 (UTC)

side questsEdit

you make a good point, i forgot that true artifact quests are listed under various other quest sections (bastok, sandy, etc.), so these non-listed artifact quests should be listed in the side quests sections. --Leauce (talk) 08:07, October 20, 2014 (UTC)

Lion and Treasure Hunting Edit

Does your comment “official forum post by SE states alter egos have same TH as THF pets” refer to this post, which speaks of Nanaa's alter ego? (Lion's was not in the game yet back then if I recall correct-like.)

I guess it is a somewhat safe bet, but I'd like to know if there actually is an official post I missed about it somewhere. ^^
« The Noob Unlimited » 07:35, December 18, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, it specifically mentions Nanaa Mihgo, but also applies to other THF Trusts, such as Lion and Fablinix. It's easy to confirm which trusts are thieves by fighting enemies that drop lots of gil, such as ZNMs, Dahaks, and Shadow Dragons, because thief NPCs also have Gil Hunter. Lion is my personal THF trust.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 17:50, December 20, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes, I was going to test via gil finder myself, but I generally don't make use of alter egos (creepy stuff), and as such, I haven't got to it yet. Thanks for confirming! ^^
« The Noob Unlimited » 15:52, January 9, 2015 (UTC)

Of course it's still assuming, which I don't like, but we'd have to ask SqEX about it to make really sure, heh.

Blue Mage Skill Chains Edit

Hello BDK,

I have a question for you I'm chomping at the bit to know the answer to.

In your Post on Balamor's Ruse you say that you did a series of WS/SC's and it has been baffling me to no end.

Either my timing is Waaay off or I'm definitely doing something wrong:( Numbers indicates timing I have tried)

You said Chain Affinity + Efflux + CDC + Amorphic Spikes for Darkness (I had this one down), Then Azure Lore(2)+ Unbridled Learning(2)+ Paralyzing Triad(2-4) + Quad. Continuum(3) for Darkness and then + Bloodrake for Double Darkness.. This All sounded so intriguing I tried it for myself.... So many times now its making my head spin lol.

I cannot get this to work at all, I can get no SC from those 2 spells no matter the Order or Timing between. I keep getting "Cannot cast spells at this time" after Paralyzing Triad. >< and then Quad Continuum DOES cast but no SC.

What is your timing on those???

Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Trying to make it so I can help all shell members get these done with minimal assistance.

I have verified Chain Affinity(3)+Savage Blade(4)+Goblin Rush(4) +Burst Affinity(3)+ Diffusion Ray (or Rail Cannon) work for Light SC and Light MB in case you had not tried that one.

Help us out! :)

--Malkasian (talk) 06:52, February 10, 2015 (UTC) Bismark: (Original Seraph)

I might have gotten one of the spells wrong... That Paralyzing Triad might have been Benthic Typhoon or even Heavy Strike, but I'm not sure. I haven't been playing BLU much since completing Nirvana 119, so I'm not sure.

Based on the spells I had equipped, here is a list of possible alternatives to to Paralyzing Triad, assuming that was the incorrect step in my post: Benthic Typhoon, Heavy Strike, Empty Thrash, Delta Thrust, or Sudden Lunge.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 02:39, February 23, 2015 (UTC)

Plot Details embedded video Edit

I'd like to get your approval on adding videos from my FFXI The Movie project to the wiki's Plot Details pages. Please see User:Korvana/Sandbox for more information. Thanks! --Korvana (talk) 23:41, April 14, 2015 (UTC)

Domain update Edit

I am posting this message on your talk page since you're the most recently active sysop. I don't have an account on the discussion forums site, so please share this with other users there (or elsewhere) as you see fit.

Effective May 22nd, this community will have its URL switched to have the "" domain become the primary domain. The previous primary domain of this wikia will instead redirect to The previous domain will continue to work to lead people to this community, and this will not affect the sitename or anything else this community does to identify itself.

This was a difficult decision for sure – we understand the pride that comes from having a highly unique URL attached to FFXIclopedia, and keeping your custom domain highly visible was one of the requests that were made when this community joined Wikia. However, as Wikia has grown and - more critically – as the internet standards have evolved and changed, trying to support this custom setup has become increasingly difficult.

The direct reason for this change is a forthcoming update to our authentication backend. This system has a litany of advantages to the default MediaWiki authentication methods, but adding more code to support authentication across custom domains would chip away at a number of its features and advantages.

With this new login feature users will have:

  • True universal login. Logging into one wikia will log them into all. This has been mostly true for a long time, but with each custom domain wikia, users have had to re-login.
  • Improved mobile experience. Wikia anticipates by the end of the year that over 50% of our traffic will come from mobile browsers. We are working hard to provide better user experiences for that platform and this login will be easily portable from desktop into mobile.
  • Improved performance. Faster code means better SEO and happier users.
  • New security features. MediaWiki's code has been slow to evolve in this area. By moving to our own login system, we will not only be able to bring in some of the more modern security authentication methods being used by many major websites, but also respond more fluidly and quickly to security concerns.

I'm happy to explain this decision more as needed. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hello, we've corrected the cookie-related issue that was causing the login inconsistencies. Please report any further problems via Special:Contact but we don't expect any further trouble. Apologies for the difficulties these past couple days. --BertH @fandom (help forum | blog) 18:27, May 25, 2015 (UTC)

Hi Blue, it seems there is a conflict with the name of a notorious monster Coeurl in Escha-Zi'Tah called Vyala. It seems this page is already taken by a Manticore used in the windurst mission 9-2 so I am not sure how this should be dealt with so I could use some advice please Skyfawn (talk) 02:54, November 15, 2015 (UTC)

Escha Zone bossesEdit

Hey Blue. I just seen what you did with the loot drops on the escha zone bosses and I'm not sure it's such a good idea. If you already have any of the rare items that either of them drops then you will not receive it again and this will distort any drop rates making it look like a lot lower percentage than it actually is. I'm also pretty certain there isn't enough people editing the wiki to get the 100 kills needed to display percentages anymore which is the reason I haven't been adding them to any mob pages I have created. Also splitting some drops into first and second instances just makes the information harder to take in without studying it(I think before I got around to making those pages I got third instances of some items, and you can get up to 4 Eschalixirs and Eschalixirs +1). I feel it would be better if these 2 pages were reverted to the format they were but I would be interested to read your opinion on this. Skyfawn (talk) 10:56, December 28, 2015 (UTC)

Your points are good, and I restored the previous format for the drop charts.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 05:25, December 29, 2015 (UTC)

Can you unlock the Gatherer of Light (I) page? Thank you. Korvana (talk) 11:14, January 5, 2016 (UTC)

Done! Sorry for delay.--Blue Donkey Kong (talk) 04:24, February 6, 2016 (UTC)

Main Page update current events if poss! Edit

Hi BDK. Just familiarised myself with a who's who on FFXICL these days via various userpages and noticed one of my first edits since starting back was removing your Catergory:Mount tag from Chocobo Whistle - did so on the basis that Mounts is a Key Item subpage with only the listed KIs on. Chocobo Whistle is still linked to on the Mounts page itself.

Got into a few bits after that;. April 2016 Login Campaign, 2016/05/04 - The April Version Update has landed!, 2016/05/04 - The April Version Update has landed!/Details and all the associated. Enjoying being back on FFXI and the wiki!

Obvs I can do most stuff, but the right-hand menu on the main page could do with the Current Events update. If there's anything I can help with let me know! -- Haldarn (talk) 16:30, April 15, 2016 (UTC)

Are you the sole active admin? Would it be possible to get privileges to change the protected pages and other tidying up jobs like page moves and deletes? I'm also having trouble accessing forums at the moment (e-mail needs changing, plus new users don't get an e-mail to set up a new account, so can cnever log in) and can't get ahold of Cemalidor.

Thanks for the response. Actually randomly ran into User:Tahngarthor in-game a couple of weeks ago and he mentioned that it shouldn't be a problem, but I've heard nothing from him since. Guess he's busy with other stuff :/ -- Haldarn (talk) 08:07, June 5, 2016 (UTC)

Ah, just noticed I can move pages now. All good! :) -- Haldarn (talk) 08:28, June 5, 2016 (UTC)

Official lore of the Corse family Edit

Dear Blue Donkey Kong, in December 2013, you made an edit to the Category:Corses page, replacing much of the lore with a shorter and very different text. The reason you gave for this was that the new text was the "official description". I'm currently researching Corse lore and of course an official statement by SquareEnix settles many open questions. Could you point me to the source of this official description, so that I may see it in context and perhaps see other information that is to be found in that source?

Regards, --ElderRune (talk) 09:13, August 2, 2016 (UTC)
