To Begin[]

Playing the Game[]

The rules of the game are available to review by speaking to Chacharoon (choose Read an explanation.) and give an animated description within a cutscene.

Opponents[]

Initially, you will only be able to play against the Green Thumb Moogle. After you defeat an opponent three times, the next opponent will become available to challenge. The subsequent opponents are Susuroon, Yeestog, Kuyin Hathdenna, and Chacharoon. Once all opponents have been beaten three times, you unlock the facility to challenge a randomly selected one of these opponents.

Objective[]

You must end up with a higher points-value of mandragora pieces in your scoring area at the end of the game. Each type of mandragora piece is worth a different amount of jingly, and that amount differs if you are the player who takes the first turn, or the player who takes the second (as compensation for the strategic disadvantage).

  • Adenium (Pink) & Citrillus (Green) - 3 (first player), 4 (second player)
  • Korrigan & Pachypodium (Black) - 2 (first player), 3 (second player)
  • Mandragora (White) - 1 (both players)

Mandragora Mania Guide

Play Area[]

The play area is divided up into 8 numbered Areas. #1, #3 and #5 can only be selected by you. #2 and #4 can be selected by both players. #6, #7 and #8 can only be selected by your opponent.

The game begins with three mandragora on each Area. By selecting an Area, any mandragora on it are removed and placed one after the other sequentially from the rear on Areas between their origin and your scoring area. Paying attention to the order of the mandragora on each Area is essential to planning your strategy.

If the last mandragora placed is on your scoring area, you immediately get another turn. If you 'overshoot', additional mandragora are placed sequentially on your opponents Areas heading back toward their scoring area. If you also 'overshoot' your opponent's scoring area, you do not score points for your opponent.

Ending the Game[]

The game ends either when there are no mandragora left on the play area, or if either player is due to take a turn and is not able to do so (because all remaining mandragora are on their opponent's Areas).

A successful match will result in a gain of 20-25 jingly on average.

Rewards[]

Chacharoon will initially offer a small selection of items for purchase. As you unlock subsequent opponents, other rewards become available:

*Only one of these items may be purchased per day (Earth time) during the event (max. 19)

Strategy[]

This is a simple enough mini-game but, if you're having a little trouble, the following tips may be of some use:

  • Gain yourself an extra turn by having the final mandragora land in your scoring area. In order to best ensure this, check from right to left.
    • If you have exactly one mandragora in Area 5, use that first.
    • If you have more, ignore it and look to the left to check Area 4 for exactly 2.
    • If you have more or less, move to the left and check Area 3 for exactly 3.
    • Keep going until you've checked all five Areas.
    • If you've selected one of your areas and been granted an extra turn, start again from Area 5 and move left - don't continue from where you left off.
  • Conversely to the tactic above, do everything you can to prevent your opponent getting the numbers they require for an extra turn in their Areas.
  • If you go first, it's highly likely you should use Area 3, gain an extra turn, and then use Area 5 to prevent your opponent from successfully using their Area 7.
  • In the later stages of the game, don't worry about draining mandragora from Area 2 one at a time as your opponent is forced to move them up to build a total of three on Area 3.
