鉋切 is short for 鉋切長光 (kannagiri-nagamitsu), a historical, named sword that in Japanese folklore was used in self defense against an ambush demon who took the shape of a carpenter wielding a spear-tipped wood planer (a 槍鉋 or yari-kanna)[1]. Having cut the tool in half, the sword was granted that title.
