Usage[]

GM Home, also known as the GM zone, the debug zone or zone 210 (after the its numeric value in the game data files) is a special zone accessible only using GM commands. The zone appears as an endless green-gray checkerboard. It is believed that GM characters idle in this zone when they have no tickets to handle, however this has not been verified. The zone name does not appear in the game data files (where its name is empty), however it is referred to as "GM Home" in GM manuals.

GM Home hosts a number of NPCs used for debugging purposes, which do not seem to be intended for GM use but rather for the use of the game developers and QA testers. There are no monsters in the zone. Examples of NPCs in GM home:

  • Fame - Allow debuggers to set their fame level in San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst and Norg. A different NPC can be used to change Adoulin fame.
  • Key Item - Gives the debugger certain useful Key Items, such as a Chocobo License, maps of all zones etc.
  • NPCs used in order to skip storyline missions (both original and expansions).
  • Many others.

In addition, there are several NPCs which do not appear to serve any practical purpose. It is assumed they may have been created by junior developers as an exercise. Examples of such NPCs:

  • Janken - Plays rock-paper-scissors, betting 10 gil at a time.
  • Speaker and Listener - Speaker turns into listener and says "Nice weather we are having here", to which listener replies "Indeed".
  • Trader - If traded a single Fire Crystal will exchange it for another crystal.
