Historical Background[]
"Futsu no mitama" (Japanese: 布都御魂) was the divine sword of the deity Takemikazuchi. During Jinmu's (legendary first emperor of Japan) campaign to the east, Amaterasu (goddess of the sun) ordered Takemikazuchi to help the beleaguered Jinmu. However instead of going himself, he sent his sword Futsu no mitama to the city of Kumano, where it was presented to Jinmu. With it, Jinmu was able to complete his campaign.
