Historical background

"Funereal" means having the mournful, somber character appropriate to a funeral. Unsure of why this name was chosen, but it's possibly due to having to kill apkallu (which is seen as a sin in the Near East, where they are a protected species) and use their remains to summon this Notorious Monster.
