Reduces physical damage only. It is applied directly as damage reduction, unlike Armor Plates, which increase defense instead. The amount of physical damage reduction is linearly proportional to the damage taken:

The damage reduction is calculated by using a formula, which takes into consideration both the automaton's max HP and how much damage the puppet has taken in one shot.
