Durium has no basis in reality. It's an ultra-strong, extremely dense, infusible sapphire blue alloy often made from "resistium" and other "ultra-elements," which had an atomic structure consisting of a nucleus of "negatrons," with orbital protons (without any electrons present in the atom at all), in "The Infinite Atom" by John W. Campbell, Jr. Durium would also be featured in several of the later works of E.E. "Doc" Smith.
