With their lances in hand and their faithful wyvern by their sides, Dragoons (DRG) surprise their enemies with their extraordinary jumping abilities.
Dragoons are melee damage dealers excelling at the use of the polearm. The wyvern is also a mainstay of the Dragoon job. The wyvern can provide many different kinds of breath attacks according to the support job the Dragoon is currently using.

Wyvern Abilities[]
Wyvern Abilities are governed by the support job of the Dragoon. They fall into 3 basic categories
Offensive Wyvern[]
This is the default state of a wyvern, as a Dragoon without a support job will get this type. Offensive Wyverns have access to six different elemental breaths, and have a high probability of using one your target is vulnerable to. You also get this Wyvern if your support job is one of the following:
Defensive Wyvern[]
The Defensive Wyvern will use Healing Breath after you cast a spell while any party member (including yourself) is lower than 1/3 HP. It will remove status effects upon the use of a Weapon Skill, and will either use a status Remove Breath or a Healing Breath when your HP is at 1/4 or below. Defensive Wyverns are enabled by having one of the following support jobs:
- White Mage
- Black Mage
- Red Mage
- Summoner (Will not use Healing Breath)
- Blue Mage
- Scholar
- Geomancer
Multipurpose Wyvern[]
The Multipurpose Wyvern will use both Elemental Breath attacks and Healing Breath effects. Unlike an Offensive Wyvern, it does not possess an innate preference for Elemental breaths that exploit target weakness. Unlike a Defensive Wyvern, the Multipurpose Wyvern cannot heal party members or remove status effects. The threshold for Healing Breath is also lower, with the Dragoon needing to be below 1/4 of their max HP. The Multipurpose Wyvern is activated by one of the following support jobs:
| Level | Trait / Ability | Wyvern Type | Trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Subtle Blow | All | Always Active |
| 1 | Flame Breath | Offensive or Multipurpose | Any Weapon Skill |
| 1 | Frost Breath | Offensive or Multipurpose | Any Weapon Skill |
| 1 | Gust Breath | Offensive or Multipurpose | Any Weapon Skill |
| 1 | Hydro Breath | Offensive or Multipurpose | Any Weapon Skill |
| 1 | Lightning Breath | Offensive or Multipurpose | Any Weapon Skill |

| 1 | Healing Breath I | Defensive or Multipurpose | Any Spell Cast |
| 1 | Remove Breath (Poison) | Defensive | Any Weapon Skill |
| 10 | Attack Bonus | All | Always Active |
| 20 | Healing Breath II | Defensive or Multipurpose | Any Spell Cast |
| 20 | Remove Breath (Blind) | Defensive | Any Weapon Skill |
| 25 | Dragon Killer | All | Always Active |
| 30 | Accuracy Bonus | All | Always Active |
| 40 | Healing Breath III | Defensive or Multipurpose | Any Spell Cast |
| 40 | Remove Breath (Paralysis) | Defensive | Any Weapon Skill |
| 50 | Accuracy Bonus II | All | Always Active |
| 50 | Super Climb | All | Super Jump |
| 80 | Healing Breath IV | Defensive or Multipurpose | Any Spell Cast |
Wyvern Miscellany[]
- In Salvage all pets' stats are locked with the master's. This means if your HP is locked, for example, your pet's HP is locked as well. Using a cell to remove a lock also removes the lock from the pet. In the case of DRG, the Wyvern will not be able to use breath abilities if abilities are locked, and its HP will be lower (and breaths weaker) if HP is locked.
- Wyverns can do actions with the following emotes:
/blush, /bow, /cheer, /clap, /dance (this includes /dance 1-4), /goodbye, /hurray, /joy, /panic, /point, /salute, /shocked, /wave
