It is generally safe to say that you will keep the DEF: +20 Defense Boost as long as you do not exit the zone where you activated the Diamond Buckler +1, or until the effect wears off in 30 Earth minutes.
The following is a non-exhastive list of conditions where the DEF: +20 Defense Boost is lost or wears off before the 30 minute duration ends.
- If the Diamond Buckler +1 is unequipped.
- If you teleport or are in a party that teleports.
- When entering your Mog House.
- If you change your job at a Nomad Moogle (even if both the job your changing from and the job your are changing to have the Diamond Buckler +1 as active equipment).
- If you use a Chocobo Masque +1 to teleport to the chocogirl located at the Telepoint closest to your home nation.
- When zoning from an outdoor area (such as La Theine Plateau) to another outdoor area (such as Valkurm Dunes).
- When zoning from a Dungeon area (such as The Eldieme Necropolis) to an Outdoor area (such as Batallia Downs.)
- When zoning between city areas (such as between Windurst Walls and Windurst Woods).
