Dagger Trials are divided into several categories:

  • Physical/Empyrean Trials reward either with a completed Empyrean weapon or weapons with specialized augments that improve their physical damage.
  • Elemental Trials reward weapons aligned to certain element/attribute pairs (fire yields str/attack, etc).
  • Weapon Skill Trials augment weapons specifically to improve the potency of weapon skills.
  • Mythic/Relic Trials upgrade Relic Weapons and Mythic Weapons past their level 75 forms to more powerful versions suitable to higher level content.

To begin a physical or empyrean trial, pick up Peeler from the Splintery Chest in Ru'Lude Gardens (H-5) and trade it to the Magian Moogle to start the trials. If all you want is to learn Rudra's Storm via Kupofried's Dagger Moogle Magic, pick up a Khandroma -1, instead. To begin Weapon Skill Trials, pick up an Fusetto from the same chest.

To begin a Relic or Mythic trial, trade that weapon to the Magian Moogle.

All monsters are required to give experience points to count towards goal (excluding Notorious Monster). You must be within experience point range to receive credit for the kill.

Physical/Empyrean Trials[]

Empyrean weapon and physical augment trials begin by obtaining a Peeler from the Splintery Chest in Ru'Lude Gardens (H-5). The paths branch between a Level 99 Twashtar AugmentedRareExclusive, a Khandroma (designed to grant the Empyrean Weapon Skill Rudra's Storm), or one of three augment paths for an Praxidikai:

  • +DMG, Occasionally attacks twice
  • Occasionally attacks 2~4 times
  • +DMG, Occasionally deals double damage

The November 2013 Version Update introduced a shortcut to a completed Khandroma which completely eliminates the VwNM grind otherwise required to reach that branch. A Khandroma -1 RareExclusive is available from the Splintery Chest, cutting a 14-step trial grind down to three to permanently learn Rudra's Storm.

There are two trials that apply Afterglow to a Twashtar, one from its level 99 form and one from its item level 119 form and they are listed here for the sake of completeness. The much cheaper way to get afterglow on your weapon is to have Oboro upgrade the Twashtar (119) RareExclusive to Twashtar (119-3) RareExclusive by trading him 10,000 Riftborn Boulders.

Elemental Trials[]

You start elemental trials the same way as Physical/Empyrean trials, but your path takes you through Trial 16 to obtain a notags}}. Elemental trials split into eight elemental routes. Each augment path has two endpointsenhances its wielder's stats, and one that imbues the weapon with an Additional Effect that weakens enemies. Only the wielder attribute paths grant day/weather bonuses for completion credit:

  • Fire: STR, Attack. Additional Effect: Weakens Attack
  • Wind: AGI, Evasion. Additional Effect: Impairs Evasion
  • Lightning: DEX, Critical hit rate. Additional Effect: Lowers Accuracy
  • Light: CHR, Magic Evasion. Additional Effect: Lowers Magic Evasion
  • Ice: INT, Magic Attack Bonus. Additional Effect: Lowers Magic Attack
  • Earth: VIT, Physical damage taken-. Additional Effect: Weakens defense
  • Water: MND, Magic Defense Bonus. Additional Effect: Lowers Magic Defense
  • Dark: MP, Magic Accuracy. Additional Effect: Lowers Magic Accuracy

For ease of reading, the 8 paths are split into Light/Dark affiliated elements

Light-Aligned Path[]

Dark-Aligned Path[]

Weapon Skill Trials[]

Weapon Skill trials branch into three augment paths

  • Weapon Skill Damage
  • TP Bonus
  • Store TP

A +2 weapon along any of these paths gives you the maximum augment potency. Further upgrades only affect the weapon's base DMG.

Relic/Mythic Trials[]

Once a Relic or Mythic weapon is Level 99 (or its afterglowed Level 99-2 form), it may be reforged to an item level 119 version by Oboro. Each weapon has two afterglow trials, one from its level 99 form and one from its item level 119 form, these trials are listed here for the sake of completeness. The much cheaper way to get afterglow on your weapon is to have Oboro upgrade your weapon to its 119-3 form with 10,000 Plutons (for relics) or chunks of Beitetsu (for mythics)

Some families of monsters also give their name to their type, such as lizards, demons and birds. Others have different forms. To distinguish them, tags are added where needed:

  • T refers to a type. i.e. LizardsT, consisting of Lizards, Efts, Raptors, etc.
  • F refers to a family For example: LizardsF only involves Lizards, not Efts, Raptors or others of the same type.
  • JA refers to both juvenile and adult forms of the family. For example: Treants include Saplings, Wamouras include Wamouracampas.
