Historical Background
Choreia (Ancient Greek: χορεία) is a circle dance (χορός σε κύκλο) accompanied by singing (see Greek chorus, choros), in ancient Greece. Homer refers to this dance in his epic poem, the Iliad.
Cognates of the name used to describe circle dances exist in a number of other countries: Khorovod (Russia), Hora (Romania, Moldova), Hora (Xopa, Khora) in Ukraine, also Khorovod, Horo (Bulgaria), Oro (Macedonia), Kolo (Serbia).
Choreia is also used as a medical term to describe particular involuntary dance-like movements of the body in diseases such as Huntington's chorea. Source
