My thoughts on Custom Signatures[]

This is a very nifty feature with the wiki, I did have a bit of trouble understanding the limitations at first. In the end, I came up with a signature that I liked and I suppose that's what matters. I'm still a bit new to the editing and creation portion of wiki, but I am attempting to learn. The features we have are fun to play with though ^_^ ♠ GRΘÐ∩RK ♠ » Talk « 06:47, 20 May 2007 (CDT)

I like this feature a lot myself. I think it adds a bit of flavor to being a member of this community. :D
I've noticed that lots of people have links ot their talk pages and to other subpages for their accounts, and I thought about linking to my project page, but I figure people can get to it or my talk page through my main page... and really you can find all of a user's subpages by searching for them by name anyway.
To the wiki staff: *Squeee!* Thanks a bunch!∆ιτнεηа 18:14, 20 May 2007 (CDT)

Glad you enjoy it :D. --GAHOO t/ c 18:24, 20 May 2007 (CDT)

I really like the custom sig. ability, too. Not much else to say other than thanks. Great job guys. Keep up the good work. --Gª££µ§ talk/ cont. 16:03, 4 June 2007 (CDT)

Another thought[]

Since i'm sure a lot of the users here aren't exactly familiar with doing this sort of thing. Maybe someone can write up a tutorial about the formatting and maybe some limitations with this. I'm not too familiar with the coding myself, so I don't feel comfortable in providing people with a tutorial. Anyways, just a thought I had. Since some people may not be able to do this on their own, it would provide them with the tools to be creative. Well that's about all I can think of to say. ♠ GRΘÐ∩RK ♠ » Talk « 15:55, 21 May 2007 (CDT)

The only tools I really needed were the Windows Character Map and a lot of patience... Some fonts just refuse to work here.
Anyway, for those that don't know, the Character Map can be accessed from your Start menu. Just go to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map. From there you can select individual characters from any font installed on your computer. (I think any font... at least the Microsoft ones.) Just chose a character and hit select, then choose another and hit select. Move your cursor as needed to make a word and then select what you wrote and copy it to here to see if it shows the characters properly.∆ιτнεηа 17:04, 21 May 2007 (CDT)
For basic stuff, nothing more than basic HTML knowledge is needed. For the trickier stuff you can just use trickier HTML, the wiki will accept almost all standard HTML. A lot of it is already listed in the Wikipedia Editing Guide. Since the wiki is so open you can also just look at other users' signatures and copy/paste all you want ;) User:Sigma/Sig 17:14, 21 May 2007 (CDT)

Userbox Template[]

I created Template:Custom Signature in case anyone would like to put the {{Custom Signature}} userbox on their user page. It will also allow someone to view what your signature looks like. --Wayka †Talk† 06:21, 13 June 2007 (CDT)

Amateur Alert![]

I'm really new to this whole custom signature thing... This is what I've created so far, and I'm asking for help with what's got me stuck: I don't know how to create the 2 pages asked for on the page.

"Instead of adding in the whole HTML code in order to add in your signature, here's a quick guide to insert signatures as a template:

  1. Create two pages, User:YOURNAME/Sig and User:YOURNAME/SigX. << This is what has me all jammed up.
  2. Place your signature code in User:YOURNAME/Sig.
     If you wish to add an info bar to that page, do so with the noinclude tags. Be sure to add the to the end of the code.
  3. Place User:YOURNAME/Sig on User:YOURNAME/SigX. This inserts the signature code as a 'template'.
     Again, add an information bar if you please.
  4. Go to your Preferences, and look at the "User Profile" tab.
  5. In the "Signature:" edit box, put {{SUBST:User:YOURNAME/SigX}} and tick "Raw signature".
  6. Now you can use your custom signature as usual with Andy 16:34, October 16, 2009 (UTC)."

In the hopes that someone still monitors this page... please help me out!! Thanks. __AERYCK__ ~Talk Contrib~

1. go to User:Aeryck/Sig and add your signature.
2. go to User:Aeryck/SigX and add {{:User:Aeryck/Sig}}
3. go to preferences and in the "User Profile" tab and in the "Signature:" edit box, add {{SUBST:User:Aeryck/SigX}}
4. tick "Raw signature" and save

Thank you SO much, Gahoo! I'm still hopelessly inept when it comes to editing on wiki, but at least this is one less page I'll be fouling up. __AERYCK__ ~Talk Contrib~ 17:12, October 16, 2009 (UTC)

Looks like you still need to:

3. go to preferences and in the "User Profile" tab and in the "Signature:" edit box, add {{SUBST:User:Aeryck/SigX}}
4. tick "custom signature" and save
