Careful, the explosion damage isn't scaled depending on your level ^^ as my experiment on level 5 pup shows...

lvl 5 pup vs furnace

--Bertz 02:42, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

So is Synergy useless to people who don't have crafts leveled on their main character since a lot of the gear and crap is EX ?......... --Illivatur 07:24, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

  • Perhaps not. The person using the engine gets the results of the Synergy, and the other members of the party are supposed to supply the crafts needed as well. So if you had enough friends willing to let you leech, you should be able to make your gear. --Baroness 07:37, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
  • Just to clarify, I can get the high lvl synergy gear without ever having to level a craft or levelling my synergy skill? --Josephpate 04:23, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
  • The person wanting to create the item needs synergy skill, and for the other people involved its not required but its still helpful- As long as people with the required crafts are present, the person creating the item does not need any of those crafts leveled. But either on yourself or through others, all of the necessary skills must be covered. Tahngarthortalk-contribs 01:14, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

Anyone found a bonecraft recipe yet? All I keep seeing is Alchemy, leather, gold, smithing, and lolfishing.

  • Not yet.. I wish i could get some ww'ing ones --Bertz 11:05, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

Considering the recipes we've seen thus far are only based on the ones given by the Synergy Engineers, I'm guessing there are quiet a few lower level synergy synths available for crafts other than cooking and alchemy.--Munenori 19:24, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

  • You heard him people! lets go try every known craft in the game and lets find out what works!... i'd do up to 97 ww'ing myself but i'm too broke atm (not enogh time to play ; ;) --Bertz 21:35, December 8, 2009 (UTC)

I found an easy, yet costly method of lvling from lower levels. Just try to make your smock. I know, sounds crazy, but I got 5 levels in 15 minutes, no joke. -Nevill, Bismarck

  • Nevill, is it possible to lose items during Synergy? I don't want to throw 100,000 Guild Points away. --Ctownwoody 01:30, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
  • It was specifically stated by SE in the release data that no materials are ever lost for failed synergy. --VonCrown 05:34, December 9, 2009 (UTC)
    • Von Crown, what happens when your Level 1 Mule dies during an explosion? That's my main concern. --Ctownwoody 21:27, December 10, 2009 (UTC)
      • Well, this is conjecture on my part, but one time I made some orange juice via synergy, forgot to take it out. Later, in a different city, I poke a furnace and it gives me my oj. So, I wouldn't be too worried about losing materials, even if you die. --VonCrown 22:02, December 18, 2009 (UTC)

Well my question is how do you trade all the EX ingredients to the crafter if you don't have any crafts on your main leveled? Like me I have my crafts on mules otherwise my main would be flooded with ingredients and crap. So I don't see how I can get stuff like Galatnya or some of the EX gear if the ingredients are EX also.... Fail idea is fail SE. --Illivatur 06:49, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

  • "Grrwrr, I don't want to have to actually do any of the work required to get my benefits!" The idea is quite solid, and Synergy is easy to level, if sometimes pricey. There's no reason why you can't spend a little effort and time (I can only guess you've already done so, if you're farming EX ingredients) to level a non-craft with little chance of failure. Good idea + whine =/= fail. --Baroness 20:30, December 16, 2009 (UTC)

Seems like people are concerned about the "results" column being wrong, even though these are the ingredients that the NPCs tell us are correct. At first I was worried too but I think these recipes are indeed correct. Looking at things, so far the NPCs have only provided recipes that take the upgraded armour and return it to the base crafted items that were released in the last update. The Aptants used to return them to the base items are the aptants meaning "Beginning", "Source" and "First". So that makes sense, but nothing has been shown for the other aptants. But if the names are anything to go by then it shouldn't be too hard to work out which aptants upgrade the base gear into the upgraded gear.

Aptant Bellum meaning "War" = WAR/DRK gear Aptant Tachus meaning "Quick" = THF/NIN/DNC gear Aptant Pera meaning "Far" = RNG/COR gear Aptant Durus meaning "Durable" = PLD gear Aptant Haelan meaning "Cure" = WHM/SMN gear Aptant Secan meaning "Attack" = BLM/SCH gear Aptant Aecus meaning "Equality" = BST/DRG gear Aptant Ishis meaning "Strength" = MNK/SAM/PUP gear Aptant Geoc meaning "Help" = RDM/BRD/BLU gear

So simply throw in an Ebon Frock with Aptant Haelan and you get WHM/SMN gear, throw in Aptant Geoc instead and you get RDM/BRD/BLU or change it to Aptant Secan for BLM/SCH.

If anyone has any of these items available to test this out, please let me know cos I'm really wanting to find out.

So one thing that is cloudy from the main page is creating items for other people, can a Synergist create an item and allow someone in your party take the item out of the furnace? Or is it placed into a treasure pool? Or do people have to lvl synergy for the items that they want? Also, is this a craft that you can also get to 100 alongside fishing and another craft? --Dinh 16:07, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Amateur Crafts

it seems you can synergy crafts that are above your level. Even if you're amateur you can craft recruit items. Pineapple Juice is considered "recruit" according to the Synergy Furnace but I was able to craft it at level 1. A lot of the crafts the Synergy Engineer gives me that is "suitable for your level of expertise" are mostly recruit crafts when I'm only amateur still. --Rinako

  • As long as you have all the non-synergy skills, you can do synergy. You just have to keep in mind that impurity increase depends on your skill difference. So if you are doing a skill 40 synergy, and your skill is 0, you add 40 impurity every feed, whereas a skill 35+ synergist would only increase impurity by the minimum of 5. --Seedling 14:00, March 18, 2010 (UTC)

What about those of us who are Amateurs but want to craft Lv. 50 stuff? Like the weapons? Is it something someone with the capability / skill to craft can make even if you hold the EX ingredients? --Illivatur 16:21, December 14, 2009 (UTC)

  • You provide the ingredients and fewells, the party provides the skills, and the lvl 50 Feeding:5 synergist feeds the fewells. --Seedling 14:00, March 18, 2010 (UTC)

Elemental Surge

While I understand that some terms are ill-defined or not defined by the game, attempts to give them definitions would be appreciated. My implicit understanding is that Elemental Surge = High-Quality success for Synergy, but can't find corroboration. Get that information up on the site, get corroboration, *then* worry about formatting it, linking etc. --Ctownwoody 21:27, December 10, 2009 (UTC)

Elemental Surge maximizes elemental levels gained for the fewell added. I should be 5 per fewell normally. Sometimes fewell burning improves, increasing levels by more then 5 for a few feeds. And if you get an elemental surge, it's 10. --Seedling 21:42, December 19, 2009 (UTC)

Inscribing Equipment

Not sure if i should remove this but ranged weapons can be inscribed, i inscribed a Bandit's Gun. --Sgtsagara 09:11, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

I agree, the ranged portion should be removed. I just inscribed my War bow +1 --Aspen ninja 09:35, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

Specialized Craft Skill Furnace Operations

Using Clothcraft: Lightning Affinity (which basically gives you a super-thwack against Lightning-based explosions), I was able to prevent explosions very consistently; out of 8 uses, the results were: Success, Success, Fail, Success, Fail, Success, Success, Success (6/8, or 75%). No explosions, because even on the Fails I was able to re-try within time easily. Final furnace condition was 99 Lightning and a whopping 362 pressure; I basically did nothing but feed Lightning fewell non-stop in between Lightning Affinity Thwacks until I ran out of time. Since you can easily get in three attempted Thwacks per pending explosion (just turn off command confirmation), and we're looking at a preliminary success rate of 75% per Thwack, that makes the elemental affinity techniques very reliable, if not quite 100% foolproof countermeasures. (Note: I have level 4 Thwack. Unknown if level 4 Thwack has any effect on Elemental Affinity Thwack; it doesn't display any differently in the options (it has no skill level listed next to it). A level 0 Thwack user might have a lower success rate)

By contrast, I tried doing nothing but regular Thwacking a furnace non-stop and got two 'success' messages out of 44 attempts, with skill level 4 Thwacking.

Attempting a 'real' test, with actually feeding fewell and using a regular level 4 Thwack, results were: Fail, Fail, Fail (boom), Fail, Fail, Success (no boom). Another real test: Fail, Fail, Fail (boom), Fail, Fail, Fail (boom), Success (no boom), Fail (ran out of time). As you can see, even without the precise success rate % of regular Thwack, Elemental Affinity Thwacks are definitely more reliable.

One thing to remember is that each attempted Elemental Affinity Whack does consume 5 fewell, even if unsuccessful (my test with 8 Whacks cost me 40 Fewell); make sure you start with a full crucible, especially if the recipe itself requires that element! -SylphiaOnFairyServer 03:32, December 15, 2009 (UTC)

Woodworking Cyclical Smarts Increases the overall durability of the Synergy pots. It Incurs less damage taken over time. Woodworking Earth Affinity What does it do? Also if anyone has anymore ideas Or knows how best to format it, these should be added in the synergy page. --Vyumaajohrluv 15:30, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

Added Guide

I made the following guide as a comprehensive means of covering Synergy, Evolith, "Aptant Armor", as well as new related NM's.
