Spider aoe slow does cause SLOW!

* Despite popular and widespread belief, spider slow does not actually cause a proper Slow effect. This is fairly easy to test; simply grab a WHM and note the recast timer for Reraise before and after being hit with Spider Web. You will see that the recast timer for Reraise will stay at 1:00 regardless. In a sense, it's like an AoE 0% Slow that must be Erased. The worst that Spider Slow does is make you waste MP erasing and hasting everyone again. Mifaco 14:45, 31 May 2007 (CDT)

As interesting as this is, what's the point of an AoE slow if it doesn't do anything? Essentially negating the need for erase, as it would seem. --CharitwoTalk 16:23, 31 May 2007 (CDT)

It overrides haste. --Chrisjander t/ c 16:30, 31 May 2007 (CDT)

Even if "Spider Slow" doesn't affect recast timers, does it affect attack speed, I wonder? It seems like this should be tested separately. --Alephnot 23:16, 24 June 2007 (CDT)

Since the Spider's slow seems so easy to land, perhaps...since the percentage of slow is based in comparing one's MND to's possible that it can still land and do 0% Slow to someone with much, much more MND than them? If that's possible, a definitive test could be done by taking a level 33 WHM (Taru, with no sub or gear would be a bonus) to Boyahda Tree, or something, and have them stand in AoE range while you fight spiders. Once they get hit with Spider Web, they could cast Reraise and see if the recast is any longer or not. Such a test would be troublesome, yeah, but definitive. Malumultimus 11:27, 4 July 2007 (CDT)

Spider Slow

Testing against Aht Urhgan Attercop (checks Easy Prey w/low evasion) as a Red Mage 75

Refresh - Before Spider Web 16 seconds, After 19 seconds
Reraise - Before 53 seconds, after 59 seconds
Stoneskin - Before 26 seconds, after 29 seconds

Seems like it causes an increase to me. --CharitwoTalk 21:41, 7 July 2007 (CDT)

Testing against Recluse Spider (checks Easy Prey w/low evasion) as a Red Mage 75

Refresh - Before 16 seconds, After 19 seconds
Reraise - Before 53 seconds, After 58 seconds
Stoneskin - Before 26 seconds, After 29 seconds

Similar results with a non-TOAU spider except reraise was 1 second less. --CharitwoTalk 22:57, 7 July 2007 (CDT)

Variance could be due to resistance. It's possible that the intensity of the effect is based on your resistance. --Chrisjander t/ c 23:02, 7 July 2007 (CDT)

Tested against Recluse Spider in Kuftal as 75WHM/BLM, no haste gear or Fast Cast, Reraise was at 1:05 recast, which seems to indicate a ~10% slow. Come to think of it, when I had made my previous assumptions, every time I had noted the recast timer, I was either RDM or /RDM and wearing +haste% gear, which would have accounted for the lack of discrepancy in recast timers. This brings up the question: just how slow is spider slow? Mifaco 01:22, 8 July 2007 (CDT)

Based on varied test results, the seconds can vary based on level of you and the mob, and the resistance between the two. The scale of which I'm not sure, I haven't done enough testing to determine such. --CharitwoTalk 01:25, 8 July 2007 (CDT)
