VNM Chart by Spira of Ragnarok uploaded by Miraun

Voidwalker Notorious Monsters (VNM) are new NMs introduced in the March 2010 update.

Beginning The Quest

Speak with Assai Nybaem in Ru'Lude Gardens (G-10) to purchase a Clear Abyssite for 1,000 gil.

Finding a Voidwalker Notorious Monster

Head to a zone and use the /heal command. If there is a Voidwalker within range, the game will signal a location for you in distance and direction. Which tier VNM spawns is based on your current color of Abyssite. Head toward the potential spawn and rest. Either the system will give you new directions, or a VNM based on your zone will spawn. Note: if the popper gets killed without having anyone else get hate from the VNM, it will immediately go back into hiding. It will still be there- but it will be able to move around again like any ordinary mob would.

If you heal in a zone, and the text says "The <color> Abyssite quivers ever so slightly, but emits no light" , That means that all the VNMs that can be spawned by that crystal are dead in that zone (The crystal seems to have a range of 300 yalms. When the crystal says this, move to a different part of the zone and try again). Tier I VNMs have multiple spawns in each zone and repop very quickly. Tier II and III VNMS have a 1 hour repop. Tier IV VNM re-pop has not been determined. If the mobs in that zone are dead, you can simply go to another zone in that specific path and see if a mob is up in that zone.

Defeating a Tier I VNM may cause your Clear Abyssite to change into Colorful Abyssite, used to track a Tier II VNM. This appears to be random. The key item for Tier I is the same for all zones. Defeating a Tier I NM makes you able to pop a Tier II in ANY Tier II zone. A Tier I from East Ronfaure can pop a Tier II in Rolanberry Fields.

Defeating a Tier II VNM may cause your Colorful Abyssite to change into Blue Abyssite, Yellow Abyssite, Purple Abyssite, Orange Abyssite or Brown Abyssite, used to track a Tier III VNM. The color will depend on the Tier II VNM that you kill. Much like ZNM, there are specific Paths , based on the color of your Abyssite, that one can take. For example, a Yellow Abyssite will not aggro Orcus(brown).

Defeating a Tier III VNM may cause your Tier III Abyssite to change into Black Abyssite, used to track a Tier IV VNM. This appears to be random.

Sometimes, your Abyssite may shatter upon popping a Tier II or III VNM. What causes this is unknown at the moment. Tier IV VNM appears to break your Abyssite 100% of the time.

Notes

It seems that if the player that pops the VNM dies in combat and is in a party no ones Abyssite will change colors. Also, if your party fights the same NM, only the person that initially popped it will have their Abyssite change color. The rest of the party must then fight a new NM of the same Tier to have their Abyssite change.

If you want your Abyssite to change you must pop the mobs in a row for T1, having someone else in the party pop theirs disrupts the amount of mobs you need for your's to change to a different color. At least this is what I believe after duo'ing about 50 pops with neither of us getting a color change. I then did about 11 in a row and got it to change for myself. Tier I mobs in general seem to have no drops, and serve only to upgrade your Abyssite.
