Limule
An airborne crustacean endemic to Abyssea, endowed with a robust carapace and elongated forelimbs wherefrom razor-sharp pincers reach rapaciously for prey. Bereft of a counterpart in Vana'diel, biologists theorize that these shelled hoverers have undergone evolution in dimensional isolation. They have emerged as a pervasive species following the great cataclysm that befell the land.

Historical Background
Limulidae is the taxonomic family for horseshoe crabs. It contains the 4 living species of horseshoe crabs. Horseshoe crabs are arthropods with large carapaces covering the entire top side of their body. They are not crabs despite the name, having a lineage closer to arachnids and extinct sea scorpions (subphylum Chelicerata) instead of crabs (subphylum Crustacea). They reside in the shallow waters of temperate oceans and seas, occasionally coming on shore. They are considered living fossils.
