Buffalo
These gigantic, earth-shaking beasts are found mostly on the frigid Uleguerand Range. Although the area is carpeted by snow and ice, the buffalo seem to thrive there. Relying on body fat more than long fur, the buffalo live comfortably in temperatures that can dip below freezing. Rivaling the famous Rams and Marids in size, very few creatures actually prey on buffalo. They are naturally aggressive, and can spot enemies even in the snow and use their sheer body mass as a weapon. Even the air they expel from their nostrils has enough force to knock adventurers off their feet. Many adventurers have been struck ill by plagues that presumably originate from the buffalo. Due to their size, it is possible to avoid confrontation with them by simply going around the animal and sticking to its blind spot.

Those who have been able to bring down one of these beasts are often rewarded by hide, horn, and meat. Buffalo hides can be tanned and applied to a large array of armor, most notably an ethnic based armor set for Beastmaster. The horns are a bit difficult to work with and have very limited applications. As for the meat, many chefs agree on the quality and the wonderful fat content (the same fat that keeps them warm) which leads to prime cuts of steak. After tasting a well prepared buffalo steak, adventurers rarely go back to lesser meats - if they can afford the price of these hard-to-earn slabs of meat.

Historical Background[]

Buffalo (Genus Bubalus) is a group of bovine ungulates renowned for their use as domesticated beasts of burden. They are native to Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent. The African Buffalo (Genus Syncerus) is also a buffalo. It is known for its formidable strength. As adults, barring sickness, they can easily defend themselves against lions. The Buffaloes native to America, though called Buffaloes are not true Buffaloes. Their proper name is Bison. True Buffaloes reside in Asia and Africa.
