These NMs are named for the Black Tri-Stars, a famous trio of enemy Mobile Suit pilots from the 1979 animated TV series Mobile Suit Gundam, an incredibly popular and influential anime.

Note that, in this TV series, these three pilots were known for using their famous "Jet Stream Attack;" one of the more dangerous and well known Bat Trio attacks is called "Jet Stream."
