Greetings my fellow BSTs! Today we will learn how to solo earn a free XP scroll once a week.
Please bear with me as this guide is very long and detailed. Not to mention my skills at drawing lines in MS Paint suck. >.>;
This involves several of the following things:
- A BST job leveled to at least 60 for the easy and medium difficulty paths or leveled to 68+ for the hard path.
- A level 70+ BST as a backup (this is optional and is intended to help you as you learn the nuances of the area).
- A Light/Apollo's Staff and as much CHR+ Gear/Food that you can use.
- Having at least level 6 fame in Bastok.
- Talking to the NPC named Trilok in the “Steaming Sheep” tavern in Port Bastok. The quest should show up in your “Current Quest” log for Bastok as “Escort for Hire”. You will need to talk to this NPC again after you finish in Crawler's Nest to receive your XP scroll.
- The map for the “Crawler's Nest” (optional). This map can be obtained by completing the quest “An Explorer's Footsteps” in Selbina 15 times.
- A XP buffer larger then 2k and Reraise item(s). This is for the people not used to doing this and also in case you are unlucky enough to mis-charm in an area full of linkable mobs.
Here is the list of all the mobs you will encounter, whether they aggro or not and on which path you will see them:
- Worker Crawler – Encountered on all three paths.
- Death Jacket (Bee) – Encountered on the first path only.
- Maze Lizard – Encountered on the first path only.
- Caveberry (Sappling) – Encountered on the second path only.
- Nest Beetle – Encountered on the second path only.
- Witch Hazel (Sappling) – Encountered during first path only.
- Hornfly – Encountered during the third path only.
- Doom Scorpion – (Sound), encountered on all three paths.
- Puroboros (Bomb) – (Sight), encountered on the first and second paths (randomly appears during rain weather).
- Soldier Crawler – (Sound), encountered on all three paths.
- Labyrinth Lizard – (Sound), encountered during the first and second paths.
- Exoray (Funguar) – (Sound), encountered during the all three paths.
- Soul Stinger (Bee) – (Sight), encountered during the second path only.
- Blazer Beetle – (Sight), encountered during the third path only.
- Mushussu (Scorpion) – (Sound), encountered during the third path only.
- Rumble Crawler – (Sound), encountered during third path only.
- Helm Beetle – (Sight), encountered during third path only.
- Crawler Hunter (Scorpion) – (Sound), encountered during third path only.
- Knight Crawler – (Sound), encountered during third path only.
There is a small chance that Water and Fire Elementals will pop during your run.
Lets talk about the 4 different paths the NPC you have to escort named Olivia can take.
The NPC will start at the zone line inside CN; then follows the path straight to the first room that is full of Maze Lizards, which I will call the first Sack Room due to the sacks hanging from the ceiling, runs into the right most tunnel which contains 4 Doom Scorpions at the end of that tunnel, and finally back into the first sack room. The only thing you have to do on this path is charm one of the Doom Scorpions, attack another and link the other 2 then drag the group out into the sack room to release and let them depop. It is recommended to stop the NPC in the tunnel before she gets to the scorpions and start her up again after you have all scorpions engaged on your pet and dragging them out of the tunnel.
There are no other aggroable mobs on this path unless someone unfortunately zoned or died with an aggroable NM on the path.
First Escort Path
The first escort path is the easiest to do time wise. After Olivia returns to the first sack room from the scorpion area, she will immediately take the first tunnel to the left of the one she just left. You will encounter up a hill which you can not get over unless you run up the left hand side, then you will travel down hill until you get to an open area with another Doom Scorpion and possibly one or two Puroboros. Stop the NPC in the tunnel right before she goes into the scorpion area. Charm the scorpion and use it to kill the Puroboros.
Continuing on you will pass through a tunnel full of Soldier Crawlers which will end at a cliff overlooking a room full of Labyrinth Lizards, if you can get aggro from the crawlers make sure that you have sneak up. Use the scorpion to attack the very last crawler on the path, then start heading back down the tunnel to the scorpion area. Halfway down the path heel your pet and pull all crawlers that you linked into the scorpion's room, release the scorpion and charm the crawler you attacked first. The other crawlers will depop and you will have a clear path to the cliff. Start the NPC and release the crawler in case you missed a crawler or if the scorpion managed to aggro the NPC. Stop the NPC at the top of the cliff and charm a lizard without dropping off the cliff, use that lizard to attack and link all the lizards on the left side of the cliff.
Sneak up, start the NPC, and drop down and travel to the first actual tunnel on the left. Stop the NPC in the tunnel and heel/release/charm the lizards that are left as necessary, make sure you do not have a pet when you start the NPC again. Up at the top of the tunnel you will see Witch Hazels and an Exoray, charm the Exoray and follow the right hand tunnel and turn left at the first side tunnel. This leads into a room with 4 more Exorays, stop the NPC just inside the tunnel and use the Exoray you charmed to attack and link the other 4, pull them out into the tunnel past the NPC release/charm, start the NPC and follow her to the end of the second escort path. DO NOT FORGET TO TALK TO THE NPC TO GET YOUR CERTIFICATE KEY ITEM!
The second path is as easy as the first path, but just takes a bit longer. After Olivia returns to the first sack room from the scorpion area, she will run two tunnels to the left of the one she just left. This tunnel leads to the Nest Beetle area, after the beetles there is one Doom Scorpion and two Soldier Crawlers. Stop the NPC in the Nest Beetle room near the scorpion tunnel.
Charm the scorpion and use it to attack/link the 3 Soldier Crawlers then pull them into the beetle room. Start the NPC then release/charm the mobs as needed. When she returns to the first sack room she will take the tunnel from the second path. Follow the directions for the second path. Stop the NPC at the top of the cliff and charm a lizard without dropping off the cliff, use that lizard to attack and link all the lizards on the right side of the cliff. Sneak up, start the NPC, and drop down and travel to the first actual tunnel on the right.
Stop the NPC just inside the tunnel and release/charm as needed, until you don't have a pet. The tunnel has 4 Soul Stingers midway so charm one and use it to attack/link the other 3 and drag them to the lizard room and release/charm them. Start the NPC but stop it before it exits the other end of the tunnel. Charm one of the 3 Exorays and use it to link the other two. As they are fighting start the NPC, she will stop in the middle of the room which is the end of the third escort path. Once again, DO NOT FORGET TO TALK TO THE NPC TO GET YOUR CERTIFICATE KEY ITEM!
The third and final path is the hardest one to solo, even for a level 75. It's not recommended to try this path unless you are level 68+ due to the high tier mobs at the end of the path. (If the NPC goes down this path and you are below the recommended level, just let the NPC die and start over.) After Olivia returns to the first sack room from the scorpion are, she will run three tunnels to the left of the one she just left. This tunnel leads to the doughnut room, which many XP parties still use.
When you enter the room the NPC will head right, doing her best to aggro every mob on the path. Your best bet is to stop the NPC inside the tunnel before she exits it and charm an Exoray since there is usually only one at the start of this section. Attack a Soldier Crawler and drag it around to link the others and pull them back to the tunnel you came from (lets give the parties there a little scare ^^), release/charm as needed and restart the NPC before the mobs repop. When the NPC gets to the bend in the path and starts heading south, charm the mob in the path (most likely an Exoray) and use it to attack/link all nearby Blazer Beetles. Start the NPC long enough for her to move to the far wall, then stop her again so you can pull the mobs you still have linked to the area you just left and release/charm as needed, you should not have a pet.
Hopefully the NPC is still alive, start the NPC and charm/move any loose mobs on the path. Stop the NPC at the beginning of the Rumble Crawler area, be careful because sometimes there is a crawler in the small alcove before the main group. If there is charm it, otherwise start and the stop the NPC so it is inside the alcove, sneak up if you need to and run past the main group of Rumble Crawlers. There should be a lone crawler right before the Helm Beetle area, charm it and use it to attack/link the main group of Rumble Crawlers, pull them back into the doughnut area and release/charm until you don't have a pet. Start the NPC quickly and stop it a little bit into the Helm Beetle area. Charm a beetle and sick it onto another one, here comes the tricky part: let the beetle get a lot of hate, heel the beetle and cast invisible on yourself. Hopefully the hate won't switch to you, now drag the beetle in front of all the other beetles on the path until they link and drag them into the Crawler Hunter room.
Release the beetle and charm the other one, then quickly run back to the NPC and start it. Stop the NPC just inside the Crawler Hunter room and release the beetle you have as a pet. It should depop inside that room, charm a scorpion and attack the other one, then drag them to the beetle area and release/charm till you don't have a pet. Run back and start the NPC and stop it inside the next tunnel, charm the Knight Crawler and start the NPC again stopping it before it runs into the Knight Crawler room. Attack/link the crawlers and start the NPC, it will stop in the middle of the room which is the end of the fourth escort path. One more time, DO NOT FORGET TO TALK TO THE NPC TO GET YOUR CERTIFICATE KEY ITEM!
Congratulations on beating escort! The XP scroll you will receive gives you a random amount of XP, anywhere from 500 to 1500 points. You will be able to redo escort after each Conquest Tally.
